The LAPD this morning was looking for a teenage girl who allegedly stole a car with an infant inside. The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. when the two-month-old child's grandfather stopped to pick up a newspaper at a newsstand, leaving the red 2000 Ford Expedition running and the child inside. As he returned, an apparent 16-year-old girl wearing a high school uniform jumped in and drove away, according to police.

About 10 minutes later, the vehicle and the child were recovered unharmed just a few blocks away on 6th Street near Esperanza. The suspect, however, was not found.

Because of the high school uniform and proximity to a school — Stevenson Middle School is immediately nearby — police were investigating those leads.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the LAPD.
