The fact that there are more Democrats in Los Angeles County than Republicans (51% to 24% to be exact) is no surprise, but a look into the numbers are nonetheless interesting. Last week Monday, the last day to register to vote and when a major registration drive was setup throughout the county, around 17,000 people signed up. And since September, more than 107,000 signed up — nearly half of those were first time registrations.

The numbers are still fluid, but here's the breakdown of new registrants since September 1st:

AMERICAN INDEPENDENT: 3,482 (3%)
DECLINE TO STATE: 24,519 (23%)
DEMOCRATIC: 45,819 (43%)
GREEN: 806 (1%)
LIBERTARIAN: 997 (1%)
NONPARTISAN: 1,020 (1%)
PEACE AND FREEDOM: 540 (1%)
REPUBLICAN: 29,913 (28%)
TOTAL: 107,096

And here are the countywide numbers as of Friday:

AMERICAN INDEPENDENT: 91,015 (2%)
DECLINE TO STATE: 911,400 (21%)
DEMOCRATIC: 2,280,534 (51%)
GREEN: 22,961 (1%)
LIBERTARIAN: 20,242 (0%)
NONPARTISAN: 38,551 (1%)
PEACE AND FREEDOM: 22,832 (1%)
REPUBLICAN: 1,048,654 (24%)
TOTAL: 4,436,189

Make o that what you will, but do take note of the large number of Decline to State (and to a lesser extent, the non partisan) registrants. That's a hefty number.
