Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Jail Weddings, Haunted George @ the Troubadour 09/30/10
With the big four (Pavement, Sonic Youth, Spoon, and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) making a stop in LA, pre-Matador 21, Thursday night meant spinning the "Which 90s Band Do I See?" wheel and not really caring where it landed. While it could be argued that the only choice was the Pavement/Sonic Youth/No Age show at the Bowl, for those of us who caught Pavement in Pomona pre-Coachella for their reunion debut (and have seen Sonic Youth and No Age a few times before), it meant heading to the Troubadour to fall in love all over again with the leather clad JSBX and their rockabilly sex appeal. Which, by they way, hasn't faded in the ten years since I saw them last at the Fillmore. (Except maybe the pants were tighter back then? Hard to say.)
Haunted George and Jail Weddings opened, with the latter warming up for their record release show at The Bootleg on October 22, which will certainly feature a heavy dose of songs off the forthcoming Love Is Lawless. If you're new to their old-timey-fused-with-new-timey brand of rock, you can check out the ten-piece's latest video for "I Thought You Were Someone I Knew", or my personal favorite, "I'm My Own Doctor".
