Tasting Dinner by Steve Cooper @ the Redwood Bar and Grill 08/26/10

SteveCooper_RedwoodAug26-3.jpg If you think back, it probably started with those delicious looking Facebook pics of multi-course meals. Designed and executed in the company of friends, each dish looking decidedly more appetizing than the last, this culinary update was a welcome respite from the usual self-aggrandizing social networking fare (especially if you like to cook and are in the habit of thinking you cannot create anything of real note in the confines of a tiny LA apartment).

This was back in the Gray Kid years, when the ever-energetic Steve Cooper was busy creating his own beats and participating in any and all manner of interesting endeavors with the People Food Collective. It was a cool time, indeed, but the food thing definitely appeared, er...on the back burner, as it were.

Not so much nowadays, it seems, with Cooper's Feed Your Head blog and cooking show a cult hit and a second 4-course tasting dinner at DTLA's Redwood Bar and Grill happening Thursday night.

Ever the enterprising young gentleman, Cooper has gone one step farther, parlaying these good eats into a cross-promotion with his current musical incarnation Spirit Animal. Depending on your donation level you may walk away with a filmed four course meal of your very own, with Chef Cooper at the helm. (Think of it like the tiered LACMA membership but with a sweatier and less-clothed demographic). Uh, yeah.

In any event, Thursday night's dinner, with wine pairing by Matt Kaner from Bar Covell and dessert by Jessica Koslow of The Village Bakery, will be something for the photo album. I, for one, cannot wait to have glazed quail and oxtail gnocchi on a pirate ship. We hear that the remaining reservations ($60 for dinner, $80 with wine) are dwindling fast, so RSVP by email [info (at) spiritanimal (dot) us] to reserve your spot.
