Previewing the Emmy Awards' Stellar Governor's Ball Bash

After the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards end on the night of August 29th, most of us will change the channel, tidy up our watch-at-home drinks and snacks mess, put the marked off play-along ballots in the recycling bin, and call it a night.

But for the 3,600 guests of the ensuing Governor's Ball, held for those attending the hallowed TV awards ceremony, the night will have just begun. As is their custom, the Academy brought in the media to showcase what this year's dazzling event will look like, and to give us a taste of what will be a "Starry, Starry Night."

Part homage to the luminosity of stardom, part a riff on the zodiac, and a name that calls to mind the work of Van Gogh (with good reason, of course), the theme is a big as the night sky, and the massive West Hall of the typically drab Convention Center will be dressed up in finery to rival the designer gowns and tuxedos of its attendees.

In a relationship that has outlasted most Hollywood marriages, the Governor's Ball is paired up with the Patina Restaurant Group and Chef Joachim Splichal for the 15th year for the food for the event. A menu of seasonal veggies molded into an exquisite late-summer salad starter, followed by a decadent Rack of Lamb (or Salmon Ratatouille or Portobello Mushroom Ravioli), awaits guests, exemplifying the tantalizing balance of innovation and reliability Splichal and the Patina group is known for.

For dessert, this is the first year Duncan Hines is on board, and they worked with the Patina Group's Executive Pastry Chef Philippe Muze to concoct something called "Dark Chocolate Decadence,"--the sweetness tempered by smoked fleur de sel. Wines will be from Beaulieu Vineyards, a Napa Valley winery. And, in what is probably your best bet for a make-at-home option to mirror the television stars' evening, Grey Goose's "The Emmy" cocktail is perfect for celebratory toasts to your favorite shows and actors. (We'll share the recipe in time for you to mix some up for the telecast!)

The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, are Sunday, August 29th on NBC.
