Bob Hope Airport Celebrates a Milestone

bob-hope-airport.jpg Bob Hope Airport in Burbank is celebrating its 80th birthday today, an occasion that will be marked with "government officials, civic and business leaders as well as hundreds of airport employees taking part in ceremonies," according to the Star-News. The domestic-service airport began in 1930 as United Airport, and is typically referred to as Burbank. Named for nearby Toluca Lake resident Bob Hope in 2003, Hope's descendants are pushing to keep the legendary funnyman and USO performer's legacy vibrant through the airport's name. Signs directing people to the airport are being changed to boast Hope's name, and biographical information will be added to displays in the airport that already tell the storied tale of the airport. Happy 80th, Bob Hope Airport!
