LAist Film Calendar: Jamaicans, Germans, Rockers & Shockers

Somebody must have sat on a scarab beetle, because the Egyptian hits the ground running this weekend! Friday, party with Native Wayne (formerly of KROQ, currently of Indie 103.1) and pour out a little Red Stripe in memory of Perry Henzell, whose 1972 classic The Harder They Come introduced the world to the heights of reggae and the depths of corruption. On the same bill is the West Coast premiere of No Place Like Home, Henzell's follow-up film, lost for over 30 years! Not thrilling enough? The Film Calendar's favorite German, Werner Herzog, brings his chaotic classics Nosferatu, Cobra Verde, Stroszek and Woyzeck - by the by, three of those feature Herzog's "best fiend", the even crazier Klaus Kinski. Still got a breath left in you? The Red Riding Trilogy waits in the wings to take it away.

However, if a trek to Hollywood is a pain in the asp, there's plenty to keep you occupied. Looking for more music? The Nuart rocks the Neil Young Trunk Show doc around the clock. Finding a mere West Coast Premiere isn't exclusive enough? The New Beverly has the World Premiere of horror director Adam Green's $400-debut Coffee and Donuts, accompanied by several shorts, his latest chiller, Frozen, as well as a Q&A with Green and the Frozen cast (including slasher icon Kane Hodder!). Can't get enough Germans? Take off to Laemmle's Encino for The Red Baron and, for a complete change of pace, steal away to Goethe-Institut for family-friendly The Robber Hotzenplotz (Der R‰uber Hotzenplotz).

Full list appears below. See you at the movies!
