DVD Tuesday: Who has Twilight fever? Who over 13?
I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Twilight books and movies provide an inherently evil model to young women about the kind of men they should date. Sure, Edward and Jacob are cute and all, but they are also violent and emotionally distant narcissists. Parents, don't be surprised when your cute little Cindy comes home with a black eye insisting, "But deep down he's really a good person!" Thank that lunatic Mormon Stephanie Meyer and her backwards ideas about sexuality. If you want to actually see a good film, try The Princess and the Frog. It got buried at the box office by that shitty Chipmunks movie, but it's definitely worth a look. Apparently, no one Heard About the Morgans. Which is a good thing! Broken Embraces isn't vintage Almodovar, but it is still Almodovar so be sure to pay your respects. I'm always willing to admit to poor judgment so here goes: I was wrong about Bandslam. It's actually pretty good.
