Zeke's Sunday Night Blues and BBQ

The old-fashioned tradition of Sunday night family dinner has gone the way of tuna noodle casserole, so why not start a new Sunday night tradition? Zeke's Smokehouse in West Hollywood (Next to the Formosa) is featuring "BBQ & Blues", a weekly live musical performance featuring local blues musicians. Don't worry, you can probably still find time for the occasional family dinner or Pupu platters and Singapore Slings at the Formosa.

From 7-9pm on Sunday nights, Zeke's will present a free live blues performance along with their BBQ, a match made in heaven. Last Sunday they started the tradition off with Steve Williams and Friends, a mellow trio that swung between soft Southern Blues and a kind of Margaritaville vibe. The opener was the singer-songwriterish Mike Freas. The acoustics were a little tinny to the side of the musicians, so we recommend a seat near the back where the sound is much improved.

Besides their Build Your Own BBQ special, Zeke's is also featuring a Dog Gone Hard Times menu with special entrees under $11.95 including plates like Catfish Bites (really more like catfish strips). a choice of sandwich or three BBQ sliders, and their Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. Having tried a number of their entrees at their invitation, we recommend the fried okra, hush puppies, potato salad, brisket, and fried chicken. Don't even worry about dessert. The servings are huge and even the heartiest diners leave with a doggie bag.
