Metric and Cage the Elephant @ Gibson Amphitheatre 12/13/09
Sometimes, concert going does not go as well as one would hope. For instance, this reviewer had high hopes of bringing LAist readers the entire line-up of the KROQ Acoustic Christmas Night 2. Instead, I was kicked out for not having the right photo pass after Cage the Elephant's set.
As the melodic sounds of Phoenix carried me unceremoniously out of the photo pit (seriously, I have the worst luck trying to shoot them), I was consoled by the fact that I was able to catch Metric, and more importantly, catch Metric doing "Dead Disco", one of their best (read danceable) songs. Out promoting Fantasies, the gorgeous Emily and crew brought real rock swagger to the bill (and not just because she was sporting skin-tight leather pants). Cage the Elephant followed and had the fans (and photogs) in a fit as lead singer Matt Shultz pogoed from one side of the stage to the other, smoke machine in full effect. Perhaps it was my not-so-clandestine shots of Shultz being held afloat by concert-goers from the "NO SHOOT" zone that aided in my terse dismissal but I have it on good authority that the night only got better.
