Get Ready for Another Set of 'Subway to the Sea' Public Meetings

Metro began with a slew of "build" options, shown above, and are now down to two

After a week of meetings regarding Metro's Regional Connector, which would in fill much needed light rail track for the Blue, Gold and Expo lines, the transit agency will host a series of meetings in a couple of weeks for the Westside Subway Extension, usually dubbed as the "Subway to the Sea."

The five meeting will be the first steps as the project team embarks on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (Draft EIS/EIR) process. At the meetings, they will update the public on where the projects stands and what's up next.

As of right now, four options are on the table. The two "build" alternatives are to extend the Metro Purple Line via Wilshire Blvd. or to combine that Wilshire extension with a West Hollywood Subway that would spur off the Hollywood/Highland station via Santa Monica Blvd until it meets up with Purple Line at Wilshire. Those options were estimated to cost $6.1 and $9 billion, respectively, in 2008. By law, Metro has to also consider the effects of doing nothing (didn't we see that for the past 20 some years?) and by improving bus service.
