LAist Staff New Year's Resolutions: 2008 Can Suck It!

The new year marks an official "do-over" in the collective consciousness of the world. It's a time to realize our shortcomings, assess our weaknesses, and take stock of the glaring absences (or over indulgences) in our life that need tending. In short, the new year provides us with a clean slate to do more and be more, with 365 fresh and exciting chances stretched out before us. In case you haven't given much thought to how you're going to do it different in 2009, we at LAist are putting forth our personal resolutions as a gentle reminder to take some stock and make some change. This year is totally going to kick 2008's ass.

Editor, Zach Behrens: To drink and find the best of the best California wines. Also...to do more hiking and see more National Parks in California.

Jeremy Oberstein: Enjoy more of historical Los Angeles, get a dog, plant a tree, drink expensive Whiskey, and eat Mexican food in Mexico.

Molly Bergen: To stop saying, "I love my apartment. It's so close to work, I could walk there." Because I don't. I hereby resolve to walk to work every day unless it's raining. Also I need to eat more vegetables. French fries don't count.

Emmanuel Uche: Go to post season game(s) for the Lakers, Bruins and Dodgers (hope hope hope hope...). Also, to take more public transportation. Driving the Magnum around can get to be too much.

News Editor, Andy Sternberg: I'm resolving to redefine personal productivity and do even more stuff better, faster. Also, looking forward to the Cubs in the '09 world series.

Caleb Bacon: My New Year's resolution is to meditate more.

Co-Editor, Lindsay William-Ross: To recycle and reuse more and to inspire others to do the same. To support local artisans, artists and craftspeople by shopping locally. To explore my neighborhood and to do so on foot as much as possible. To learn more about our amazing local history. To read and write more and take more photos.

Health Editor, Jessica Pauline: To commit to a schedule that includes things like: Regular yoga classes at Silverlake Yoga, working OUTSIDE the home, even if it means sitting in a cafe (my fav is Downbeat on Echo Park Blvd.), seeing more old movies (Cinefamily and Beverly Fairfax Cinemas!), and going to the occasional play or show instead of watching TV.

Lisa Borodkin: Blog more, digitize more, paper less, bring my own bag.

Michael Zampelli: Mine is not to commit suicide until at least 2010.

Heath Biter: To carry the cherished memories forward, and leave the painful ones behind...

Emily Lerman: Finish reading books that I start. Consistently: cook, yoga, hike, surf and see movies. Use less. Go camping. Eat matzoh ball soup at every deli in LA.

Music Editor, Joshua Pressman: To live, love, listen and write more...

Beth Kopley: Finally write my Neighborhood Project piece on Los Feliz. Do more yoga. Spend more time writing fiction. Rise above it (whatever it may be) more often.

Arts & Events Editor, Christine N. Ziemba: Write more. Do something with the web domains I've bought. Eat more vegetables.

Matt Vannucci: I will deal with mail immediately, not leave it scattered on the dining room table.

Ross A. Lincoln: I resolve to never, ever, ever stop hating George Bush. I also resolve to include him in as many mom jokes as possible.

Adam Rose: Write more for LAist!

As for me, I'd like to feel better in 2009. Last year was populated with sinus infections, flus, 80 hour work weeks, anxiety, insomnia, all-nighters, migraines, stitches, and a rash the doctors could only shrug and diagnosis as "stress related". I say bring on the yoga, the gluten and dairy-free, the 8 hours of sleep, the extended friends and family time, the hikes in the canyon, the jalapenos on everything, the inside jokes, the giving back, the feeling better.
