Meanwhile, two Riverside County and one Orange County cities have approved resolutions in support of Arizona's law. The two men never ended up with any beer, just cuffs when they were found soon after.
School's T-Shirt Slogan Was Actually Sex Chat Line Number
Sounds like a tame enough idea: Print up some t-shirts with the school mascot running and make a slogan out of one of those 800 numbers that uses words instead of digits. Only one of the parents from Linda Vista Elementary School in Yorba Linda decided to give the presumably made-up number a whirl and found that number was something else entirely, according to the Pasadena Star-News...

Ann Coulter is a Sell Out!
Right-winged mouthpiece Ann Coulter's recent gum flappings as a result of being "bumped from a scheduled NBC appearance" seems to have gotten "her and her new book more press than if she’d gone on air as originally planned." The OC Register's Total Buzz blog notes that Coulter has managed to draw a sell-out crowd for an upcoming Orange County appearance. Coulter is scheduled to make a February 5th stop at the Nixon Library in Yorba Linda on her promo tour for her latest tome, Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and Their Assault on America. Rain on its Way, but Hopefully not Mudslides
Over the next few days, we could be seeing total of 5 inches of rain making for a more cozy Thanksgiving feeling, but a stressful one for people in recent burn areas. "Although a storm of this magnitude this time of year would not by itself pose a risk for life threatening flooding, areas that have been denuded from recent burns are at an increased risk for flash floods and debris flows," the National Weather Service is warning.

With rains due to fall as early as tomorrow night, residents are not only having to recover from the fires, but also shore up their hillsides and homes with sandbags, in case the dried-out soil can't hold and the mud comes crashing down.

'Freeway Complex' Fire Continues to Burn; Affects 4 Counties
The fire that broke out Saturday in Corona near Green River Road and the 91 Riverside Freeway has now been dubbed the "Freeway Complex" fire or the "Triangle Freeway" fire because of the broad stretch of land in three counties--Riverside (Corona), Orange (Yorba Linda, Anaheim Hills), and San Bernardino (Chino Hills)--in which it is blazing. The fire has consumed over 800 acres, and officials are saying they believe 12 homes have been burned, although some are estimating the total between the two fires to be 16. "Two Corona firefighters were slightly injured when flames engulfed their engine," reports KFWB. Area residents remain under evacuation orders as winds continue to drive the flames through the neighborhood. The 91 Freeway is closed in both directions in the Corona area and there are reports of people stuck on the freeway in total gridlock.

CBS2.com reports that "the 91 Freeway was closed between Green River Road and the Corona (71) Expressway at 9:45 a.m. Traffic is also being stopped on the Riverside (91) Freeway between Orange and Riverside counties." Extra, Extra: We Taste The Best
- Five are dead and one person was hurt in an apparent murder-suicide in Yorba Linda, close to the Richard Nixon Library. A 14-year-old called in to report that his father had shot him. Police later found that the gunman shot his wife and 3 of his children before turning the gun on himself.
- As we have pointed out before, it's not a good time to be a Republican. The state GOP is meeting in San Francisco (of all places) to talk about ways to help the party in which a deep rift has developed between those on the right and those to the right of them.
- In a headline nearly as long as the entire article, the Daily News tells us: Yes, you're paying more for gas. Average is now $3.10. We need to invest in alternative fuels. We need to elect a Democrat who will explore alternative fuels. We need to elect a Repuiblican who will drill in Alaska. We need to drive more hybrids. Fuck it, I'm off to catch the bus.
- Is Councilman Herb Wesson gearing up for a mayoral run? Hmmmmm. At least one blog might support some opposition.
- LAX could receive greater scrutiny if a study is approved Monday that would look into diesel emissions and how noise from arriving and departing planes affects surrounding homes. It's something that Bob Hope Airport in Burbank continues to grapple with.
- The nod for best movie may go to "No Country For Old Men," but the award for best tasting tap water has gone to Los Angeles. A panel of 10 journalists and food critics sampled sparkling, tap and bottled water from 19 states and other countries, including New Zealand, Romania, Macedonia and the Philippines before calling it for Los Angeles.
- And speaking of Oscars, if you are reading this, it means you are not reading our Academy Awards Live- Blogging. Even if you are not a fan of the glitz and glamor, I know you like our wit, and it's being served in 10-minute increments.
