7 Marathons, 7 Days, 7 Continents: Woman to Run L.A. Course

Talk about a busy week! Zealous 36-year-old runner Marie-Louise Stenild of England is trying to break the Guinness World Record to to become the first woman ever to complete seven marathons in seven days on seven continents. On Monday, her third day of running, she and a support team will run L.A.'s Stadium to Sea marathon route that debuted earlier this year (nerdy fact: the Guinness World Records Museum on Hollywood Blvd. is around mile 12). The effort is also raising money for the Adam Rogers Trust, named for a 13-year-old who did of a brain tumor. Stenild begins her world tour on Saturday with a marathon course in Antarctica. more ›

Travis Pastrana to Attempt World Record in Long Beach on NYE

Come New Year's Eve, motorcross superstar Travis Pastrana will attempt to break the world record for longest jump in a car. He plans on jumping 171 feet from a pier in Long Beach Harbor onto a barge. "Everyone always jokes about launching off a pier and Red Bull was able to pull it together where we have a barge to land on, which I think is going to be absolutely insane," he told the Long Beach Press-Telegram. He did it. Jeremy Swan inked 874 tattoos in 24 hours last Friday, breaking the record of 801. The results are not official yet, though, as he has to send a time-lapse video, among other documents like photos of each tattoo, to Guinness for approval. Update: Tattoo World Record Attempt Half Way Done

As of 3 p.m., Jeremy Swan's attempt to break the world record for "most tattoos done in 24 hours" was around half way there with about 400 tats completed. He needs to complete over 802 tattoos total. Although hundreds poured in to his Silver Lake-based Broken Art Tattoo at midnight, the rate of people coming in during this morning slowed significantly. However, this afternoon, progress picked up and is expected to continue as night settles. If you want to get one yourself, there's still time--you just need to be inked before midnight. Tattoo artist Jeremy Swan got off to a busy start when the clock struck twelve this morning. Vying to break the Guinness World Record for "most tattoos done in 24 hours," his Silver Lake parlor, Broken Art Tattoo, was slammed with people of all ages ready to be inked. By 6 a.m., it was Swan's goal to have completed nearly 350 tats (Note: this post was written prior to 6 a.m.), which would put him on a pace to easily topple the current record, held at 802 tattoos. more ›

As dusk was falling over Santa Monica Pier on Friday night, Ronnie Renner was rising. The motorcycle daredevil broke the Guinness World Record for highest air ever attained on a quarterpipe, which had been constructed near the pier's ferris wheel and roller coaster. A pair of towers, each 55 feet tall, were used by the crowd to estimate the height of each attempt. A team of surveyors used reflectors and lasers to confirm the official measurements. more ›
