On this day in 1969, Max Yasgur rescued the future by allowing the Woodstock Music Festival to be held on his 600 acres in Bethel after permits in Woodstock (about 50 miles away) were denied. 50,000 people turned into 200,000 people that turned into nearly half a million people.
