Local Winery Proposes Mixed Used Chinatown Development with Metro
As state officials figure out how to put a high speed train under or around Los Angeles State Historic Park (aka the "Cornfield"), another project surrounding the rare piece of downtown open space has been proposed. Owners of the nearby San Antonio Winery have proposed a public-private partnership with Metro, developing a mixed-use space on a thin steep strip of land between Metro Gold Line Tracks and Broadway Avenue (map), according to blogdowntown.
At Malibu Family Wines in the Santa Monica Mountains, It's About Enjoying the Company
Tucked in a more rural section of Mulholland Drive on the northern side of the Santa Monica Mountains is a fairly large property where people gather daily. Whether they're just getting off from a hike or bicycle ride or just wanted to get out of the city without traveling too far, the outdoor Malibu Family Wines tasting room is one relaxing spot, especially in the summer.

Blown Away By Los Angeles Magazine's Annual Food Event
This past Sunday, Los Angeles Magazine hosted their 3rd Annual Food Event, held on a hot and blustery afternoon at Saddlerock Ranch, a winery tucked into the hills of Mulholland Hwy in Malibu. The rustic landscape was criss-crossed by narrow, bumpy roads that heightened the excitement as we drove onto the property, with slivers of dappled hillsides, vineyards, and pens holding exotic--and less exotic--animals came into view on the way to the clearing where the tents and tables were set up.

The event is a big draw for food and wine lovers of all calibers, and offers an astonishing quantity of quality eats and drinks for the ticket price; although the pricetag is hefty ($300 advance, $350 at the door), the event is not merely a showcase for food and wine, but rather a wildly successful fundraiser for Meals on Wheels.
Happy 90th to the San Antonio Winery
Last weekend we were happy to take part in the Harvest Festival, as part of a year-long 90th Anniversary celebration for the historic San Antonio Winery, a place much loved by LAist. The gracious Riboli family hosted the event, which was held at the winery, which has been in its same location on Lamar Street in East Los Angeles since 1917. There was food provided by the winery's onsite Maddalena restaurant, and wine aplenty...
