On-Set: 'Star Trek: The Next Generation: A XXX Parody' (SFW), Part 2

In retrospect, LAist was either incredibly dedicated or insane (probably a little of both) to have been present for all four days of production on Sam Hain's Star Trek: The Next Generation: A XXX Parody. The first day, on the Enterprise-D bridge, ran over 20 hours, with at least one castmember falling asleep on-set until needed. more ›

This IS Rocket Science

This IS Rocket Science

Each year, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena opens its doors to the community for a two-day open house. Prior to this year, I had never heard of the event. On a recent Sunday morning, a scientist friend whisked me off to JPL at the last moment. Armed solely with my RAZR phone camera, I tried to capture the sights as best I could. The JPL website described the open house as: This popular... more ›

Of All The Suits, Why Did Hip Hop Hold 'Em Choose The Spade?

A mix between updating his fans on his tour schedule... more ›

Some tips for navigating the family holiday

Some tips for navigating the family holiday

This week Salon published a great essay by Wil Wheaton about Thanksgiving with his family. It serves as an excellent model for being mature when your parents' political views clash with your own; if you've ever been tempted to storm out and drink schnapps behind the garage until it's time for dinner, this might help. The politics in question was the execution of Tookie Williams, and over on Wil's blog there's an excerpt, if you aren't subscribed/don't want to get a day pass to Salon. The upshot? Sometimes, it's ok to put the politics aside. And DON'T YELL. more ›

What's My Line comes alive

What's My Line comes alive

From 1950 to 1975, the game show What's My Line broadcast to TV audiences. We missed it then, but we understand it featured a well-dressed panel of celebrities trying to guess the occupation of a mystery guest, who would be revealed to the audience in advance to increase hilarity. Why bring it up now? J. Keith Von Straaten has brought it back to life, on stage in Hollywood, with real cool mystery guests (Lindsay Wagner! Wil Wheaton! Dick Van Patten!) Host van Straten guides four panelists in their questioning quest most Wednesdays at 8pm; catch tonight's show and you'll see Defamer's favorite, Andy Dick, throw in his 2 cents. Or whatever else might be in his pockets.
