There are some new locations within the immediate Los Angeles area with wildflower reports on this week's Theodore Payne Foundation wildflower hotline including the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden at UCLA and Debs Park in Boyle Heights. Eaton Canyon in Pasadena continues to grow as well as viewing, but over at Poppy Reserve in the Antelope Valley, things are a little different. more ›

Casey Schreiner over at Modern Hiker took a walk in the Verdugo Mountains between Glendale and Burbank on Sunday finding a few patches of wildflowers. Blogdowntown's Ed Fuentes also found himself walking on Sunday, albeit in South Park where he was enjoying the full bloom of cherry blossoms on 12th street. more ›

Over the past few years, the exotic Sahara mustard plant has been aggressively spreading across the Joshua Tree National Park, possibly threatening the desert ecosystem and leaving irreversible damage. Perhaps the most noticeable damage to a visitor is the affect to the beautiful annual wildflower blooms. more ›

With the rain, even how relatively little there has been this year, comes wildflowers around Southern California. "We are seeing a few flowers already, but the best of the bloom will most likely be from the last week of February through the first two weeks of March," reads the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park's website. more ›
