When people find out I write about sports the question invariably comes up: what sport do you like the most? I always answer baseball which elicits strange looks. It’s as though they feel I’m strange because baseball is an old-timey sport that drags and is boring. After what happened on this final day of the baseball season, I hope people finally understand.
LAst Night's Action: The Best Night of Regular Season Baseball Ever
200 Cops Raid Valley, Target 'Vineland Boys' Gang
So that's why cops were all over the Valley this morning. The Daily News is reporting that around 200 cops raided 15 homes, arresting 16, in an early morning operation called "Wild Card" which is "the police department's effort to challenge a particularly active and violent clique of Vineland known as the Jokers."
The Most Amazing Baseball Game Since 9/18/06
The San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies each played 162 games and needed one more game to decide who would clinch the wild card. And both teams played like they wanted to win it. I decided early on that I would cheer for the Rockies. I mean since the Dodgers decided to tank in the last two weeks of the season and give the Rockies seven of their 13 wins, the Rockies better...
LAst Night's Action: It's Official
Angels 7, Mariners 4 - The champagne Bud Light is no longer on ice. After dropping two in a row to Seattle and delaying their inevitable AL West pennant, LAnaheim closed it out on Sunday. This is the earliest the Angels have ever clinched. They will join Cleveland (AL Central), Boston (at least the AL Wild Card) and one other team in the chase to represent the junior league in the World Series. Dodgers 7,...
Dodgers Plug Hole, Sign Loaiza
In an attempt to shore up holes in their pitching staff, the Dodgers claimed right-hander Esteban Loaiza, 36, off waivers from the Oakland A's today.

Dodgers Stake Claim to Wild Card Lead and Hope to Extend It Tonight
The Dodgers captured sole possession of the National League Wild Card lead by defeating the Colorado Rockies, 11-4. The Philadelphia Phillies, led by homerun sensation Ryan Howard, lost to the Washington Nationals, 4-3. Ryan Howard had a chance to win the game for Philadelphia, but he flied out to deep centerfield with the tying run on base for the last out of the game. Currently, we are one game up on Philadelphia in the wild card race and just 2 games back of the Padres in the National League West Division.
Dodgers Sweep Reds and Extend Streak to 5
The Cincinnati Reds, in town the past 3 days, were in 2nd place in the Central Division and 1st place in the Wild Card standings when the series started. They have a formidable line-up that includes future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr., slugger Adam Dunn, former Dodger David Ross, gruff and hard-nosed player Ryan Freel, and rookie phenom Edwin Encarnacion. Fortunately, these Reds were no match for the mighty men in Blue this week. Cincinnati was swept and they now find themselves a game and a half behind the Padres in the Wild Card race. The Blue Crew earned a 5 game winning streak.
The Hunt for Blue October
Well, we're getting closer to the former each day, as the Dodgers looked like a playoff team in rallying from behind and beating the Cubs 8-5 yesterday.
