The Dodgers captured sole possession of the National League Wild Card lead by defeating the Colorado Rockies, 11-4. The Philadelphia Phillies, led by homerun sensation Ryan Howard, lost to the Washington Nationals, 4-3. Ryan Howard had a chance to win the game for Philadelphia, but he flied out to deep centerfield with the tying run on base for the last out of the game. The Cincinnati Reds, in town the past 3 days, were in 2nd place in the Central Division and 1st place in the Wild Card standings when the series started. They have a formidable line-up that includes future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr., slugger Adam Dunn, former Dodger David Ross, gruff and hard-nosed player Ryan Freel, and rookie phenom Edwin Encarnacion.
