After a successful inaugural season that included The Afternoons, The Deadly Syndrome, The Parson Red Heads, Whispertown 2000, The Broken West, Le Switch, Radar Bros., The One AM Radio, Eulogies, Langhorne Slim, One Trick Pony, Local Natives, and Saint Motel, the family-friendly Kidrockers LA returns this Sunday to The Echo, hosted by comedians Matt Dwyer and Matt Braunger with music by The Damselles & the TC4 and Quazar & the Bamboozled.

Tonight Australian hard rockers AC/DC will be coming through the Staples Center. As always, local multi-instrumentalist/producer extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Interview, #2, Review) is poised to jam with friends at the Largo at the Coronet. And, lastly, LAist favorites Whispertown 2000 (LAist Review, #2) will be headlining the Echo with none other than local brother and sister duo the Belle Brigade. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch LA-based indie rockers the Happy Hollows (LAist Review, #2, #3). Other venerable local acts like the Pity Party (LAist Interview, Review, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6) and the Health Club are slated to kick things off.
Tonight contemporary classical composer Nico Muhly will be performing at the Walt Disney Music Hall in Downtown. Local folk rockers Whispertown 2000 (LAist Interview, Review, #2) and the Broken West (LAist Review) are poised to play at the Echo for this month's edition of Kidrockers. And, lastly, LAist's favorite alt-rockers Everest (LAist Review, #2) will be playing an in-store session at Fingerprints in Long Beach early on in the afternoon. But we strongly suggest heading over to Home Restaurant to catch jazz-infused pop duo Alex & Sam (LAist Interview, Review).
Tonight Anglo-Swedish rockers Razorlight will be headlining a sold-out show at the Troubadour with locals Red Cortez in tow. San Franciscan-bred singer-songwriter Miranda Lee Richards is kicking off a month-long residency at Spaceland. And, lastly, LAist favorites Whispertown 2000 (LAist Interview, Review, #2) will be performing at the Hotel Café with San Diegan singer-songwriter Greg Laswell (LAist Interview, Review, #2, #3, #4, #5). But we strongly recommend heading over to Cinespace to catch English electro-pop sensation Little Boots.
Tonight Latin/hip-hop outfit Ozomatli will be concluding a three-night stint at the House of Blues Sunset. Legendary punk rock outfit X are slated to headline Club Nokia. Hepcat will be asserting that ska is still in season at the El Rey Theatre. And, lastly, LAist favorites Whispertown 2000 (LAist Interview, Review, #2) are putting on a holiday extravaganza at Relax Bar. But we strongly suggest that you head over to the Hollywood Forever Masonic Lodge. Okkervil River (LAist Review) front man Will Sheff will be performing with Swedish folk rocker the Tallest Man on Earth. If you caught wind of that egregious error within the last two hours, we are terribly sorry. The Buddyhead Christmas Party will take place tomorrow night!
This past Saturday, the first annual OId Bank District Holiday Block Party was held at the intersection of 4th and Main in Downtown LA. The main stage, booked by Little Radio (MySpace), featured local bands Restaurant (MySpace), Dawes (MySpace), Rumspringa (MySpace), The Like (MySpace), Whispertown 2000 (MySpace), and The Afternoons (MySpace).
December is list-making season. And for us music journalists, it is a time to look back on scores of albums, reflect upon the music and recapitulate our favorites. But this year, just like the last, we took this opportunity to flip that tradition upside down, asking the artists that influenced us what influenced them. The prompt was not limited to albums that came out in 2008.
Tonight Disney's bastard children the Jonas Brothers are performing at the newly renovated Hollywood Palladium. Speaking of the younger demographic, please be good to your children. Take them to experience substantive, thought-provoking music like that of the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2) and the Henry Clay People (LAist Review, #2), who will be performing at the Echo early on for Kidrockers. As always, you must have a child in tow to gain admission. Local singer-songwriter extraordinaire Charlie Wadhams will be concluding a month-long residency at Tangier in Los Feliz. And, lastly, Nebraskan indie pop duo Azure Ray (LAist Interview) will be gracing the Troubadour with Cursive front man Tim Kasher and local folk rockers Whispertown 2000 (LAist Interview, Review, #2). But we strongly suggest you head over to the Echo later on in the night for Portland's own experimental folk maestros Blitzen Trapper (LAist Interview). The busy bees in Parson Red Heads are slated to open, making a grand total of two appearances in one night at one venue.
Tonight LA will be taken over by folk-driven rock. As you very well know, we already doled out the opportunity to witness the Experience Hendrix concert at the Greek Theatre. But Maine-based singer-songwriter Ray Lamontagne will be concluding a two-night stint at the Wiltern. And we never thought we'd find ourselves saying this, but Portland's own folk troubadour Adrian Orange, or rather Thanksgiving, will be performing at Echo Curio with experimental rockers White Fang. Also, our favorite children's show host Lance Rock will be taking over Amoeba Records on Sunset for a Yo Gabba Gabba! session of sorts. However, we suggest catching Whispertown 2000 (LAist Review, #2), who will be playing an early show at the Echo with another Rilo Kiley-related act, the Elected bassist Michael Runion.
Less than a minute into the opening track of Whispertown 2000's second full length album Swim, you start to wonder if this is another quartet of musical pretenders riding the coattails of more successful artists before them.
Last Sunday, local Alex Lilly's solo project Obi Best (MySpace), formerly known as Colorforms (MySpace), performed the first show of her month-long residency, celebrating the release of her debut album , at Tangier in Los Feliz.

You may have noticed a new button on our left-hand column with the title We See The Best Concerts. It dawned on us the other day that we really do go to the best concerts and we usually write about them the next day or a few days later. So here's a wrap up of all 37 shows we reviewed this month, with links to the posts just in case you missed it. Chris...
Friday night was my first night back in the states from my vacation in Europe and it was strange. Needless to say, I've been sleep-deprived and delirious for days now. Echo Park is screwy place to be the day you get back from vacation. Between witnessing some dude walking down the street with a 5 foot long boa constrictor and a Jenny Lewis induced-frenzy, I felt even more delirious. With the Jenny Lewis connections...

Whispertown 2000 is an LA based band that sounds the way a soft velour blanket being dragged across the backs of your knees feels. The band is sweet, silly, and serious about bringing you traditional rock song writing styles, with a female edge. Whispertown 2000 play a lot of LA shows, and aren't afraid to make friends with their crowd. Having been to one of their shows, I wandered in feeling like a stranger...
