In a previous episode of Weird Los Angeles we spoke of strange things such as fish falling from the sky. Even stranger still, there have been accounts of even more bizarre, and grisly 'objects' descending from the zenith. Flesh! Such sinister showers were recorded by the Los Angeles News during the 1800s, and almost lost to the world if it weren't for the logging skills of author Charles Fort who listed such anomalies in his......

It happened during the 1950s in Los Angeles. Mr Hall was waiting for a traffic light when the girl came into view by the side of the road. She was pretty, and she was hitch-hiking, her thumb raised to the heavens and her elegant complexion faced towards the stationary vehicle. However, on this occasion Mr Hall didn't have time, and as the light flicked to green he zoomed off with haste, not giving the hitch-hiker......

Los Angeles and southern California's annals of folklore are peppered by obscure manifestations which have no real reason or solution, except to confuse and scare, and if recorded, terrify many years after they originally occurred. Take for instance the yarns pertaining to the Hairy Ghosts, said to haunt the woods of southern California as monstrous white apes. Sightings date back to the 1930s and spread as far as the Borrego Sink, but are such hulking......

April 1970, 9:00 am. A teenager, walking down Beverly Boulevard with his brother and sister stumbled upon the old building. It must've been three-stories high. Despite heavy traffic on the streets, near the eerie looking structure there was no-one about. There was certainly nobody residing within the walls, the forlorn face of the building had blackened windows, and there were no signs to indicate it had been in use recently. The kids found a door.......

The Phantom Dog?A Mr Ferguson was a passenger in a car travelling from Los Angeles to Ontario during the year of 1970. In the car with him were his aunt, who was driving, and cousin. The vehicle twisted and turned and came to an almost rural stretch of road when a large dog came onto the opposite carriageway and began to run across the road. Strangely, the animal seemed to almost move in slow motion......

Despite being considered as quirky nonsense, the mystery of freakish falls from the sky has become a regular occurrence over the years, and Los Angeles hasn't been exempt from such bizarre downpours and surreal showers. The setting was the Santa Monica Freeway, near Crenshaw Boulevard. The date December 19th of 1984. The weather was poor to say the least as traffic began to build on the freeway after severe storms battered the roads and heavy......

Los Angeles may have the largest populus, but within its history lurks several anomalies which defy the hustle and bustle of city life. Elizabeth Lake, located close to Palmdale in "north county" was once inhabited by one of these anomalies. It is said that the old lake, one of ten named Elizabeth in California, was created by the Devil who bestowed upon the waters one of his demonic pets, that being a diabolical beast. Sightings......

The Santa Clarita Valley region has always been rumoured to have been inhabited by Bigfoot, but what was encountered in the Fall of 1974 was bizarre to say the least, and unlike any typical Bigfoot sighting. Several teenage boys had experiences they would never forget. In October two teenagers in the area observed a tall, muscular creature covered in hair which was carrying a dead pig through the undergrowth. Although they were naturally shocked to......

Reports of Bigfoot were sweeping across America by the late '50s, but what Charles Wetzel encountered on Saturday, November 1st, 1958 was unlike anything reported in the press. He was cruising in his 1952 Buick Super near Riverside, lending an ear to KFI Radio of Los Angeles, when he had to slow his car further to avoid water that had spilled across the road from the Santa Ana River. Suddenly, the radio began to crackle......

Something strange is decreasing the abundant and once bold populations of coyote's in Southern California, and it's not from this planet! On February 18th 1996 two men travelling on the 101 West Freeway encountered a peculiar 'animal' which was running alongside the vehicle. The weird beast caused such a distraction that the driver veered the motor into a ditch, causing other drivers to stop as they passed. Suddenly, all witnesses involved, saw two odd, goat-like......

During 1985 in Riverside, huge and unusual footprints were found. The Press-Enterprise newspaper at the time ran an article on the findings claiming that the prints were made by Bigfoot. Five years later near Palm Springs campers were alarmed by a series of terriyfing screams, heavy breathing and the movement of something large outside their tent. In the morning large footprints were discovered leading away from the camp area and into the thicket. Legend......

Welcome to the bizarre world of 'Weird Los Angeles', where shaggy-haired man-beasts roam the back roads, eerie phantoms drift through the night and peculiar objects move silently across the zenith. We'll be taking you on a weekly tour of the cities anomalies, beginning with sightings of Bigfoot, where it seems reports date back to the 1970s.
