Tonight In Rock: Echo & The Bunnymen, Weezer, Islands, Kid Sister

Tonight legendary English post-punk outfit Echo & the Bunnymen will be headlining the Nokia Theatre in Downtown. LA-bred Grammy Award-winning alternative rockers Weezer (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4) are poised to headline the Hollywood Palladium. And, lastly, Chicago-based rapper Kid Sister will be gracing the Echoplex with none other than Chicago's own DJ duo Flosstradamus and the Very Best, a fledgling musical amalgam comprised of London based production duo Radioclit and Malawi-bred crooner Esau Mwamwaya. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Troubadour to catch Québécois indie rock act Islands. LAist favorite Jemina Pearl, lead singer of acclaimed Nashville-based garage rock outfit Be Your Own Pet, is slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Jon Brion, Amadou & Mariam, Daedelus, The Crabs

Tonight, as always, local multi-instrumentalist/producer extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Interview, #2, Review) will be jamming with friends at the Largo at the Coronet. LA-bred electronic mastermind Daedelus will be performing at the Downtown Independent Theater as a part of A Labrat Matinee VII: The Dublab 10th Anniversary Edition. And, lastly, local cover band the Crabs, which features members of the long-defunct Pasadena-based rock band Ozma, will be covering Weezer's 1996 tour de force Pinkerton in its entirety at the Knitting Factory's Front Stage. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into the Henry Fonda Music Box to catch Amadou & Mariam, a blind Mali-based husband-and-wife musical duo. Pomona-bred duo Geggy Tah, which of course includes Greg Kurstin of the Bird and the Bee, are slated to kick things off.

When you attend a concert that happens on a Monday afternoon and also is sponsored by Yahoo, your expectations from the get-go are low, but from the moment Weezer ripped into "Hash Pipe," all the Monday blues were wiped away. You don’t need to hit a hash pipe to numb yourself on a Monday, all you need is Rivers Cuomo and the rest of his band mates, dressed in their white jumpsuits, blasting the Roxy like it was midnight, instead of 2 pm.

Tonight In Rock: Blink 182, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Airborne Toxic Event, Timber Timbre

Tonight legendary Poway-bred pop punk outfit Blink 182 will be headlining the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater with none other than Weezer, Taking Back Sunday and Asher Roth. NY-based alternative rock trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs (LAist Review) are poised to take on the Greek Theatre with Portland's own experimental electronic duo YACHT and celebrated alternative rockers the Breeders in tow. And, lastly, Los Feliz-bred Top 40 maestros the Airborne Toxic Event will be performing at the Pomona Fox Theater with none other than hometown heroes Red Cortez (LAist Review, #2) and the the Henry Clay People (Review, #2, #3, #4). But we strongly suggest heading over to the Silver Lake Lounge to catch Toronto-based folk rock outfit Timber Timbre. Local indie rock act the Minor Canon and Arizona-based rock quintet What Laura Says are slated to kick things off.

Week In Rock: Blink 182, Phoenix, Arctic Monkeys, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

This week legendary Poway-bred pop punk outfit Blink 182 will be headlining the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater with none other than Weezer, Taking Back Sunday and Asher Roth. Parisian buzz band Phoenix (LAist Review) are poised to grace the Greek Theatre with Canadian indie rock outfit Metric and local garage rockers the Soft Pack in tow. English alternative rockers Arctic Monkeys will be performing at the Hollywood Palladium with local pop rock outfit the Like. And, lastly, NY-bred indie pop act the Pains of Being Pure at Heart (LAist Interview) will be taking on the Troubadour.

Stores and restaurants are popping up everywhere. These temporary spaces turn shopping and eating into an adventure. At Royal/T in Culver City, the Poketo Pop-Up Shop is filled with original art and colorful designs and a special pix-fixe Poketo menu is being served in the cafe.

Tonight LA is brimming with shows. We've got Weezer and that sorry excuse for a Blink 182 side project, Angel & Airwaves, performing at the Forum. Indie-pop duo the Ting Tings (LAist Review) and Brooklyn-based queen Santogold will be prancing around the cavernous confines of the Wiltern. NY-based avant-garde artist Antony and the Johnsons will be employing his otherworldly vibrato at the Walt Disney Hall in Downtown. Kentucky-based folk collective These United States are slated to headline the Silverlake Lounge. And, lastly, Seattle-based indie rock band the Dead Science will grace the Smell with local singer-songwriter Devon Williams in tow. But legendary English post-rockers the Wire will be making their triumphant return tonight at the Echoplex. San Diego's own garage rock heroes the Muslims will be opening the show, testing out songs from their forthcoming 2008 eponymous debut.

You saw the video, but here's some of what went down during Weezer's music video shoot of their song "Troublemaker," as seen through the eyes of LAist photographers Tom Andrews and Michael Zampelli. Many world records were attempted, but not all were successful like the longest guitar cable used in a music video. However, they did earn five world records: Largest Air Guitar Ensemble (consisting of 233 participants), Largest Game of Dodgeball (consisting of two teams of 50), Longest Guitar Hero World Tour Marathon (lasting 10 hours 12 minutes and 54 seconds), Most People in a Custard Pie Fight (consisting of 120 people) and Most People Riding on a Skateboard (22 people managed to ride on the skateboard).

Weezer's long awaited "Troublemaker" video just premiered on Yahoo! Music. The video’s exclusive 24-hour online premiere is available now. Weezer gathered a ton of their fans at The Forum to shatter Guinness records such as "World's Biggest Rock Band" and "The Biggest Weezer Logo Made of Nachos."

After the success of their their last music video, Weezer is set to film yet another for their song, "Troublemaker," and looking to break some world records while at it with fans who want to be in the music video (you must be available on August 21st in the Los Angeles Area).

Time for a song from the LA Hootenanny about a little town called Beverly Hills.

Patrick Wilson sings "Automatic" at the hootenanny while Rivers Cuomo takes a turn on drums.

Here's a glimpse behind the scenes of the LA Weezer Hootenanny. Rivers Cuomo organizes more than 250 musicians into an arrangement for "Pork and Beans".

Scott Shriner leads the hootenanny players through their version of Radiohead's "Creep".

More than 250 Weezer fans got to jam with their favorite band. LAist was there (see from the show here). Now you can see it too. "And I'm jello, baby."

Monday Weezer taped their Nissan Live Set for Yahoo and LAist was there. The Weezer Hootenanny performance included "Pork and Beans", "Say It Ain't So", "El Scorcho", "Island In The Sun", "Automatic", Radiohead's "Creep", and "Beverly Hills". More than 200 fans played along on guitars, horns, accordions, and percussion. Everyone clapped, stomped, sang, and had an amazing time being 'in' Weezer.
