After much whining and pleading, LAist's inner child persuaded us to call USC and obtain a pass to the "Ready to Share: Ownership of Creativity in Fashion" conference on 1/30 sponsored by USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center's Creativity, Commerce & Culture project, Center for the Public Domain and The Fashion Institute of Desgin & Merchandise/FIDM.

The by-invitation-only guests will include people working in fashion, film, music, academia and law. Speakers include designer Kevan Hall, “Sex and the City” creator Michael Patrick King, musician T-Bone Burnett and Booth Moore, fashion reporter for the Los Angeles Times, and vintage guru Cameron Silver.

The 1,600-square-foot shop on Place du Marché-Saint-Honoré carries T-shirts in a multitude of colors and shapes, apparel and accessories for the entire family, including dogs.

But we grow weary of having the news foisted on us by the media. Already, there's been news bits about the $38,390 basket of love awaiting Golden Globe presenters and soon we will hear all about the goodies awaiting celebs and their handlers at Sundance or in town for the awards season (why doesn't some enterprising young publisher just compile all the press releases on what celeb received which complimentary doodad this time and publish a periodical called "Swagazine").

Judy's Boutique Founder Passes On
Another Southern California trendsetter has passed away. According to the August 19, 2004 issue of : "Retail innovator Marcia Israel-Curley, the founder of the young womens specialty retailer Judys, died Tuesday morning of a stroke. She was 83, according to longtime friend Warren Cowan.
