In light of today's tsunami advisory, L.A. County lifeguards will close beaches at 8 p.m., one hour before waves are expected to gain in height. City officials with Parks and Recreation were unsure if the Venice Boardwalk would close, but facilities close at 7 p.m. with most businesses shutting doors around that time. A spokesperson at Councilmember Bill Rosendahl's office said he hoped the new skatepark, scheduled to open this weekend, won't be damaged.

      

It's a storm in the tropics that is reverberating on our SoCal shores in the form of massive--and deadly--surf these days. LAist's Lifestyle Editor Julie Wolfson sent over these shots captured this morning on the shores of Salt Creek Beach in Laguna Niguel, and some of the brave (foolish?) surfers who couldn't turn down an opportunity to hang ten in the huge waves.

       

There has been some great surf in Los Angeles the last few days and Branimir Kvartuc, Founder of EppicSurf.com (it's like Facebook & Flickr for pro surf photographers and surfers), was kind enough to share what we've been missing down in the Southbay.

If you're looking for 20-25 ft. waves, you better at least head up to Point Conception or past Eureka for even higher ones.
