Kings Torch the Capitals

Kings Torch the Capitals

If you were to believe ESPN, the BCS and the folks who live in the South, then you would believe the Kings were the best team in the NHL. Like the two SEC teams fighting for the Mythical Championship in college football, the Kings have a pretty stout defense and are stunted on offense. As I have exhaustingly said almost each time I write about the Kings, they are the worst goal scoring team in the NHL. They’re even worse than the New York Islanders and the Anaheim Ducks. But the Kings bucked the offense-deficient trend trouncing the Washington Capitals 5-2. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Hiller Coughs Up Ducks Lead

LAst Night's Action: Hiller Coughs Up Ducks Lead

Washington Capitals defeat Anaheim Ducks 5-4 (OT). This loss cannot be blamed on the Ducks offense. After struggling to generate any sort of offense going 1-4-1 on their last six games (including 1-2-1 on this current road trip), the second “Finnish” line came up big with Andrew Cogliano joining Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Continue To Make Road Kill

LAst Night's Action: Kings Continue To Make Road Kill

LA Kings defeat Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 (SO). Sitting at STAPLES Center night after night during their awful January homestand, it was hard to imagine the Kings getting their act together. Their blue line was awful and their offense went MIA in spurts. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Overwhelm Pacers

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Overwhelm Pacers

LA Lakers defeat Indiana Pacers 118-96. Things looked dicey for the champs on their Grammy tour in the first half. The Pacers came out with a small lineup and really pushed the tempo. Either that or the Lakers were feeling a bit sluggish after their dismantling of the Washington Wizards the previous night. Either way they went into the locker room at half time with only a three point advantage. But the boys woke up in the second half with a huge dose of Andrew Bynum. Bynum scored 27 points while grabbing 12 boards. Even Kobe Bryant who had 29 points seemed to defer to Bynum at times. Pau Gasol added 21 points and 13 rebounds while Lamar Odom rounded out with 12 points and 14 rebounds. The Lakers now head over to Philly on Friday for a warmup to their mondo mega death match against the Boston Celtics. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Wednesday Night Just Like Tuesday

LA Lakers defeat Golden State Warriors 129-121. The Lakers had to work hard in this second game of a back-to-back. The trailed by as much as 12 points in the third quarter. But they shook off the doldrums and took control of the game at the end of the quarter. The Warriors didn't give up, but the trio of Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol was just too much for them. Both teams had six players that scored in double digits. The Lakers with a 44-10 record have the third best record after 54 games in franchise history. In the other two seasons, 1971-1972 and 1987-1988, they won the NBA title. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Bad Day for Amateurs, Great Day for Pros

LAst Night's Action: Bad Day for Amateurs, Great Day for Pros

LA Lakers defeat Phoenix Suns 105-92. Missing easy buckets don't lead to victories. Ask the Suns forward Amare Stoudemire. All night Stoudemire and the Suns missed easy dunks, putbacks and layups to give the Lakers a fight. And when you make mistakes against the best team in the league, you just don't win. Meanwhile Vladimir Radmonovic got his stroke back shooting 5-for-6 beyond the arc. Jordan Farmar, Lamar Odom and Trevor Ariza all scored double-digits coming off the bench. Meanwhile the Andrew Bynum-Shaquille O'Neal showdown was basically a push. more ›
