The runoff election between Joe Buscaino and Warren Furutani to fill the vacated Los Angeles City Council district 15 seat takes place on January 17, but if voters were looking to the former seat holder, U.S. Rep. Janice Hahn (D-San Pedro), for her endorsement, they're going to have to keep looking. Hahn says she won't endorse either.

Election to Fill Hahn's CD 15 Seat Ends In Runoff Between Buscaino and Furutani
The race to fill Janice Hahn's vacant Los Angeles City Council seat has become the tale of the Officer and an Assemblyman. The two top finishers in last night's special election in CD 15 has resulted in a runoff slated for Los Angeles police officer Joe Buscaino and Assemblyman Warren Furutani.
State Bill Would Let 17-Year-Olds Vote in Primary Elections
It happens every election, except when that Obama guy shows up: voting turnout is dismal and embarrassing. Now, three bills being considered within the state could make some interesting changes. They won't change things overnight, but two of them deal with those under 17. The most interesting is from Long Beach Assemblyman Warren Furutani. ACA 2 would allow 17-year-olds to vote in a primary if he or she will be 18 by the time of the general election. Another bill, AB 30, from LA State Senator Curren Price would allow 16 and 17-year-olds to pre-register, but they would not be able to vote until they are 18. Price also has AB 106 that would allow you to be registered to vote via your state income tax, drivers license and various other forms.
More Police Training on Sikh Faith Called for in State Bill
Pracitcing members of the Skih religion are required to carry five articles of faith which includes a small curved blade called a kirpan. Long Beach Assemblyman Warren Furutani has introduced Assembly Bill 504--if passed, it would force police officers to be trained on the faith, according to the LA Times. In a statement, Furutani said "[the bill] recognizes the state’s responsibility to protect religious freedoms, while ensuring public safety. The Sikh community should not live in fear of arrest by law enforcement for carrying the kirpan, which is an integral part of their religious faith."
