Video: Woman Maces Kid on Metro Red Line Subway

We've seen our fair share of aggressive behavior while taking the Red Line, but this video, taken between Hollywood and Highland and Universal City, is pretty disgusting. Sure the kids are acting like total brats and rudely harassing the woman (called the "crackhead" in this video), but does one of them deserve mace in the eye?

The Latest Police Brutality Video (or were they Distraction Hits?)

A video of a San Bernardino police officer striking a man with his baton multiple times as he lays on the ground with another officer on top of him has surfaced on the net and has been picked up by TV stations.

Video: So What Do Gibbons Sound Like When they Sing?

Earlier today, we told you about the Gibbon Research Center up in Santa Clarita (they're having a vegan breakfast fundraiser on Sunday morning) where every morning, they sing--it's a territorial thing. On a recent visit to the center, we were very lucky to hear them for about 20 minutes and got a little of it on video.

It rains and all of the sudden there are crashes everywhere. In fact, there were 186 between midnight and earlier this morning. All this ridiculousness means fodder for comedians and the like, and, no doubt, a couple humorous ones surfaced yesterday on local blogs. Above, via Curbed LA, Conan O'Brien teases his new home and below, via the LA Now and LA Observed, a mock movie trailer for yet another Los Angeles disaster flick.

Duvall Resigns after Sex Talk Video

It's not surprising but Orange County Assemblyman Michael Duvall (R-Yorba Linda) this afternoon announced his resignation, according to KNX1070 on Twitter. "I am deeply saddened that my inappropriate comments have become a major distraction for my colleagues in the Assembly," he said in a statement. "I have come to the conclusion that it would not be fair to my family, my constituents or to my friends on both sides of the aisle. Therefore, I have decided to resign my office, effective immediately, so that the Assembly can get back to work." Last night, KCAL9 aired a report on a leaked video of him talking about a tryst with at least two women, one of whom that is suspected to be a lobbyist that deals with his committee assignment.

It's been a tough week for Mount Wilson -- though she's still standing. But let's remember the good times with this video.

...however, this clip from The Donald's appearance on last night's Letterman may give you insight into how Trump and Letterman feel about the issue of same-sex marriage. In discussing the beauty pageants run by the Trump empire, the name Carrie Prejean--the ousted Miss California USA who took heat for her response to Perez Hilton's question about marriage--inevitably came up (1:15 in the clip). Explains Defamer of the awkward moment:

Trump offered his admirable but weak defense of her for being a dolt, prompting Letterman to jump in with an "anybody who wants to get married ought to be able to get married" comment. The studio audience then went nuts while Trump sat silent, all alone in the world for a few seconds with only a banana-yellow tie and a big, garish head as his friends.
Letterman of course went in for the punchline opportunity with the ol' "why should only heterosexual people be made miserable" by marriage bit, deflecting from Trump's seemingly opposing view. Poor Carrie, was the vibe of Trump's tone--a beatiful girl taken to task for her innocent opinion. No mention, mind you, of her nudie pics or failure to show up for Miss California USA gigs mandated by her contract. Maybe she'll write about Trump's take in her upcoming autobiography.

You build it and they will come."

Diaspora Dances in Santa Monica to be Webcasted Live

I think we all learned that the United States is a melting pot of people and cultures and that it began that way and continues in that direction, in spite of recent immigration hassles. Award winning choreographer/director Keith Glassman has taken off from that fact and created Far From Home, a multimedia, interdisciplinary evening length piece he will premiere this weekend at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica (June 26-27).

Here's that baby gray whale we mentioned earlier this week. He's been hanging out in Marina Del Rey, showing off bits of his 20-foot long body when he surfaces, creating quite a spectacle for locals and tourists.

So we learned earlier today that fire officials do not want residents staying and defending their homes. So what about hiring a private fire fighting firm to ensure your home's safety from wildfires?

Occasional LAist contributor Aarti has been slaving away over a hot stove for some time now on her self-produced cooking video series, Aarti Paarti, and with spring most definitely in the air, and wonderful springtime finds like green garlic and fava beans plentiful at area farmer's markets, she's whipped up this video recipe how-to for Fava Bean Pillows with Brown Butter. Word buzzed about town yesterday that Nadya Suleman, aka OctoMom, was due to bring home two of her eight newborn babies to her family's new home in La Habra, according to the Huffington Post. The arrival sparked a media frenzy:

Scores of photographers, reporters and gawkers who had staked out her new house for hours clung to her vehicle as she arrived home late Tuesday in a homecoming reminiscent of the scenes that have surrounded Hollywood's infamous celebutantes.
Suleman rode in the back of an SUV, her face beaming as cameras frantically clicked and flashes went off. Although she professed feeling nervous about the safety of her newborns, she did not seem to mind the crowds--in fact, footage captured of the arrival shows her looking amused and pleased with the attention.

Oh, please...like we'd actually have (and show) the real video of Whittier's Nadya Suleman, aka OctoMom, giving birth to her eight babies. But she is looking for a buyer for her labor room video (hey, girl's gotta eat...and feed her 14 children) for the tidy sum of $1 million. Since they don't have the real thing (phew!) Jimmy Kimmel instead offers his version of Suleman's delivery in this quick and silly clip.
