'Blood Alley' May Become A Proper Freeway
A series of public hearings are set this week to discus a 63-mile High Desert Corridor freeway connecting Palmdale and Victorville that's proposed as a safer alternative to the existing two-lane road known as "blood alley."
Road Hog: 500 Pound Pig Slows Traffic in Victorville
In our concrete tangle of SigAlerts and clogged rush hour lanes, the occasional animal-in-traffic story can be noteworthy, especially when it has a happy ending. For the quarter-ton hog who was blocking traffic on D Street in Victorville overnight, life luckily goes on, says KTLA, who describe the distress call logged by San Bernardino county sheriff's deputies from a motorist about the pig who had escaped from a fenced enclosure. The pig was a slow mover, though; it took 3 hours to get the animal safely into a horse trailer.
Father of Missing Victorville Teen Uses YouTube to Beg Her to Come Home
The father of 13-year-old Miranda Hemphill of Victorville has turned to the internet to appeal to his missing daughter. An Amber Alert was issued overnight for the missing teen, who was last seen Sunday, and is thought to be with 22-year-old Ivan Lopez of Lennox, according to LA Now. "Lopez is wanted on a 2009 felony warrant for a sex crime against a minor." Hemphill's father notes in the video that his daughter met Lopez online.
Headline of the Day: 'Fedora-wearing bank robber escapes on mountain bike'
Ah, life in the desert outskirts of Los Angeles. This incident happened this morning in Victorville when a 5'7" 200-pound Caucasian man gave a note to a teller that implied a threat if he did not receive some money. So far, no arrests, but not to fear, we hear barnyard animals are good crime stoppers. That's because of another great headline: "Barnyard animals help nab burglar." A suspect burgler Thursday in nearby Pinon Hills hid inside a building by a barn. Police were tipped off because all the animals were "fixated" on the building. "The donkeys, the geese and then pigs were just staring at this building," an official said.
Cars & Crimes Times Three
Three different news stories are making the rounds today, all of which involve cars and crimes, and all of which are best defined as "things that make you go hmm?" (Are we still allowed to say that?)
