Weekend Edition We're heading into a sloooww TV weekend and an even slower TV week with no new premieres or finales. What the week will be building up to is the premiere of "Mad Men" on the night of July 25th - the hype has already started, it seems, with the "news" that Mrs. Draper, January Jones, is now an item with "Saturday Night Live" ombudsman Jason Sudeikis. Sudeikis is a very nice guy, so if it's true, more power to him, but this "reveal" seems a little too convenient. more ›

Yesterday we expressed our frustration with Versus' complete lack of content in Monday's broadcast of the Amgen Tour of California - we had deluded ourselves that things couldn't get any worse. Tuesday's broadcast of stage 3 from San Francisco to Santa Cruz started out great, beautiful footage of familiar roads and climbs, albeit without an attempt at an explanation for why no footage from stage 2 could be broadcast on Monday. more ›

Last night marked the series finale of "The Pacific", and while we've expressed frustration with accuracy, and a general feeling of apathy for the characters, last night's episode was probably the best one - without a shot being fired. [Spoiler Alert] As we saw these men return to the States, reintegrate (or not) with their families, we finally felt some real empathy for them. It was very well done with the exception of the myriad of post-scripts preceding the credits. more ›

Weekend Highlights: Saturday - We've eagerly been anticipating Betty White's hosting of "Saturday Night Live" since we reported on it in March. She was great on Jimmy Fallon last night and we feel pretty confident that the comedy veteran will have elicited the best writing and performances the "SNL" crew can muster. more ›

Jimmy Fallon will be introduced online as Conan O'Brien's replacement this fall according to the NYT. Fallon will not be doing an entire hour-long show, but rather, 10 minute mini-shows that might or might not feature guests and skits. NBC is attempting to get a jump start on the changes that will be made in late night TV next year on NBC with Jay Leno leaving and Conan O'Brien taking over the "Tonight Show". Fallon needs to start strong on "Late Night" as he will not be afforded the same adjustment period that O'Brien was granted a decade and a half ago - times have changed. more ›

OK so the Oscars are this weekend. Even though the writers' strike is over, the prediction is that this will be a ho-hum (excuse me?) Oscars. First of all, the majority of the films presented for consideration are real downers, secondly, because of the strike, many potential presenters thought that the awards ceremony would be canceled or drastically cut back so they made other plans and are now not available to present at the show. I'm sure they will have enough presenters but perhaps there won't be as many "mega-stars", thus leaving room for more indie-types. more ›

The AMGEN Tour of California has returned and it started a couple days ago with a time trial in Palo Alto. The tour makes its way to Sacramento today and then starts heading south towards Los Angeles. The race concludes on Sunday, February 24th with Stage 7 which starts in Santa Clarita and finishes in Pasadena. more ›

Now that the writers' strike is over and it's full-steam ahead with the Oscars, you can bet that just about every TV channel is going to dogpile on the gala event. Yeah, the Grammys went ahead without interference but the Grammys are nothing compared to the Oscars. E! and CNN already have several shows lined up (look for Oscar host, Jon Stewart, on Larry King this Wednesday night) ready to tackle the exciting topics of: what will be in the gift bags?
