TV Junkie: Monday

A lotta hungover people in Boston today, no doubt - and with that drama, who the eff was watching the GOP debate? I don't really care about that much this week other than the Damages finale tomorrow night, but first things first. Late night's a bust with almost 100% repeats tonight. Did you catch last night's Curb Your Enthusiasm? Hilarious that Larry David's fictional wife is also leaving him - brilliant too. 8:00pm Chuck NBC... more ›

TV Junkie: Rickles on Letterman - See Him While He's Still Alive; Kimmel Does His Show From A Bus

A Word or 76: CBS lineup tonight is wiped out by the CMAs and unless you are up for a Sir Laurence Olivier marathon on TCM then there's no movies on. I'm getting kind of sick of the parade of authors on late night TV, particularly Comedy Central - who the eff has time to read when there's so much bad TV? Speaking of bad TV, we're down to the final 3 on both... more ›

TV Junkie: 'Idol' Returns to Hollywood; New 'House', 'Veronica Mars', and More...

A Word or 51: PBS and NPR have been hyping up the new set of Frontline programs that expose media manipulation. Knee-jerk conservative pundits will have a chance to spew their own conspiracy theories since this week we have the Anti-Surge Resolution in Congress, and the Libby trial - topics both relevant to the program. Tonight - Tuesday - February 13th, 2007 American Idol (Fox, 8:00 p.m.) Done with auditions, the show heads to... more ›

Super Bowl Proposal Finally Airs During Veronica Mars Woman Says, "I Think I'm Going to Puke"

All he wanted to do was share his big moment with as many eyeballs as possible. He was supposed to pop the question during the Super Bowl during a commercial, but when the spot was yanked, the guy behind MySuperProposal.com settled for having the ad run tonight during the popular show "Veronica Mars", his dear one's favorite program. "JP" explained it a little on his site yesterday before he popped the question: At various... more ›

TV Junkie: How Many Toes Is This?

A Word or 67: I've already seen some State of the Union drinking games posted on the web, so get home early with a bottle of hooch because here again your early primetime programming is to be disrupted by our floundering President and his evil grimacing VP, standing behind him like some kind of Golem. Which Democratic senators is he going to attempt to kiss this time? Lieberman, pucker up mofo. Tonight - Tuesday... more ›

“Dancing With the Stars” (ABC, 8:00 p.m.) Really, is this worth watching anymore without Springer on it? We're hoping for some kind of graphic dance-floor accident, or perhaps a Carrie-at-the-senior-prom reenactment. “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (NBC, 9:00 p.m.) Liza Minelli makes a cameo appearance in this Halloween-tinged episode. “Veronica Mars” (the CW, 9:00 p.m.) The underground campus casino is robbed in this Halloween-tainted episode. “Frontline/World” (PBS, 9:00 p.m.) The Burmese government conducts a... more ›

Veronica Mars is Back!

Veronica Mars is Back!

Like the "Terminator" before her, "Veronica Mars" is back. One of the few shows to survive the transition from The UPN to The CW, "Veronica Mars" proved once again how good television can and should be and why it rightfully has a place on The CW Fall schedule. Filling the void left by the departure of Joss Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel”, “Veronica Mars” is a smart, funny show with great dialog,... more ›

The Fall TV Wrapup

The Fall TV Wrapup

Now that the majority of the new TV season has been paraded out in front of our collective eyeballs, LAist can make a few somewhat informed predictions as to how these new shows, and returning ones, will fare. Some of the new ones will, of course, do better than others. In the mix there are always one or two that breakout and become hits. Mostly, however, there are far more that die a quick... more ›

COOOOOOONNNNNNNNNN!!!

COOOOOOONNNNNNNNNN!!!

Don't be alarmed at the loud title above. This is just a primer to get you in the mood for all the festivities, mayhem and otherwise cool stuff that will be happening at the Comic-Con in San Diego next week. If you don't already know, the San Diego Comic-Con is one of those events with humble roots that is now one of the premier happenings of the year, at least on this coast. However, it's not just comics and manga and people dressed in weird costumes (although there will be people dressed in weird costumes, no doubt). No, its about much more than comic books these days. more ›

It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Veronica Mars

It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Veronica Mars

May isn't just a television sweeps month, it’s also a do-or-die time for shows “on the bubble.” Those shows have a 50-50 chance (or less) of getting renewed by their networks. It’s an especially precarious time for the shows on the WB and UPN because those two networks are merging to become the CW in September, so all the old shows can’t possibly fit on the prime time schedule. more ›

LAist Watches: Brick

LAist Watches: Brick

San Clemente has never looked so seedy. The sleepy town just outside of Orange County is the backdrop for Rian Johnson's first film, Brick (note: Brick is an advertiser on LAist but this is not advertorial). We won't argue that the film should join the pantheon of great LA/So.Cal flicks we've been talking about recently or that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's just the best film we've seen this year. more ›

LAist Watches: Veronica Mars

LAist Watches: Veronica Mars

Our favorite show in a fictional Southern California town returned this past week and all is right in the world. Well, all is right if you just really enjoy when just about everything is wrong in the world of Veronica Mars. Sure, she's back with Duncan, who isn't much less creepy off the meds, and is in the good graces, somewhat, of the One-Niners again but Logan isn't any less tortured or troubled, Weevil wants Logan dead and despite wanting to just be a happy kid for awhile, Veronica can't just give up sleuthing when her friends are in trouble. more ›
