LAst Night's Action: Kings Break Through to Second Round

LAst Night's Action: Kings Break Through to Second Round

LA Kings defeat Vancouver Canucks 2-1 (OT). After losing the last two regular season games to the San Jose Sharks by choking two-goal leads in the third period, there didn't seem to be much hope for this team. It seemed as if the fire went out as soon as they clinched a playoff berth despite having the chance of being the 3-seed. And that's almost never a good omen for a playoff bound team. But after storming out of the gate winning the first two games in Vancouver, anything could happen. more ›

Kings Can't Finish off Vancouver

Kings Can't Finish off Vancouver

The Kings hadn't been in this position in nearly a decade when they faced a Game 7 against the Colorado Avalanche in the Mile High City on April 29, 2002, a 4-0 loss. Hit the fast-forward button, the Kings still couldn't find the finishing touch in their 3-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Outplay Canucks in Vancouver

LAst Night's Action: Kings Outplay Canucks in Vancouver

LA Kings defeat Vancouver Canucks 4-2. It’s not a playoff series until the home team loses. Well it’s officially a series. Dustin Penner - yes, that Dustin Penner - scored the winning goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation while Dustin Brown bagged the empty-netter to ice the game. Mike Richards and Willie Mitchell also scored power-play goals. more ›

Kings Refuse to Lose (In Regulation)

Kings Refuse to Lose (In Regulation)

Along with Ken Hitchcock of the St. Louis Blues, the only other head coaching change of the seven in the NHL this season that has worked out is Darryl Sutter with the Kings. Along with the Kings’ 3-2 road shootout victory over the Vancouver Canucks Tuesday night, the Kings are now 8-1-5 since Sutter took over the reins on December 20. more ›

Kings End 2011 Winning

Kings End 2011 Winning

This was definitely worth staying sober on New Year’s Eve for the first time since I was 16 years old. I was only loaded on coffee, and the only white piles near me were the ice shavings at STAPLES Center. And for the first time this season, the Kings were the team that I envisioned them to be before the season started in their 4-1 beatdown of the Vancouver Canucks under the weighty gaze of Gene Simmons. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Score Four in Second Period, Clings to Victory against Vancouver

Anaheim Ducks defeat Vancouver Canucks 4-3. The Ducks did Friday night what the Kings couldn’t do Thursday night: beat the Canucks. Despite a four-goal second period with Jonas Hiller shutting out the Canucks to that point, the Ducks barely hung on when Vancouver outshot Anaheim 22-2 in that final period with goals by Kevin Bieksa and two by Jannik Hansen. more ›

Kings Can't Overcome Horrible First Period Against Canucks

Kings Can't Overcome Horrible First Period Against Canucks

Do you remember my last Kings’ game story I wrote and all of the good feelings it engendered? It was a nice uplifting story about an offense starting to find its legs after getting off to a disappointing start. Strike it from the record. After an abysmal first period they managed to cling on to yet another loss, this time to the middling Vancouver Canucks 3-2. more ›

Controversy Mires Kings 3-1 Loss To Canucks

Controversy Mires Kings 3-1 Loss To Canucks

To say this game had a playoff atmosphere is a huge understatement. Emotions, hits and even the crowd were running high with the NHL-leading Vancouver Canucks in town for a normally staid matinee game. A controversial Daniel Sedin goal 11:36 in the third period helped give the Canucks the 3-1 victory and irked head coach Terry Murray. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Knicks Foye-d

LAst Night's Action: Knicks Foye-d

LA Clippers defeat New York Knicks 116-108. It looked like another fourth quarter swoon as the Clippers saw their 20-point third quarter lead shrivel up to only three points. But Randy Foye's timely three-pointers allowed the Clips to surge ahead late in the fourth quarter to win only their fourth road game of the season and first since Dec. 27. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Fish Shows Some Magic for Lakers

LAst Night's Action: Fish Shows Some Magic for Lakers

LA Lakers defeat LA Clippers 87-86. With 0.2 seconds left in the game and the Lakers trailing 86-85, Derek Fisher still had the ball in his hands as he was driving for a layup. The ball made its departure with 0.1 seconds left, somehow avoided DeAndre Jordan’s block and made it into the hoop giving the Lakers the win. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Win Home Opener

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Win Home Opener

Anaheim Ducks defeat Vancouver Canucks 4-3. Things didn’t look right from the start. It was the Canucks, not the Ducks who came into the game leading in penalties and penalty-minutes, who were in the penalty box in the opening minute of the game. In fact less than a minute later the Ducks went on a 5-on-3 man advantage. Something is wrong here. Right as the original penalty expired, Captain Ryan Getzlaf got off the schneid and scored his first goal of the season giving the Ducks their first lead of the season. more ›

LAst Night's Action: USC Sunk By Field Goal Again

LAst Night's Action: USC Sunk By Field Goal Again

#16 Stanford Cardinal defeat USC Trojans 37-35. The second verse was the same as the first. LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Power Past Reds

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Power Past Reds

LA Dodgers defeat Cincinnati Reds 14-6. While Hiroki Kuroda has arguably been the Dodgers’ best starter early in the season, he wasn’t quite so sharp in his third start of the season. Fortunately the Dodgers offense continued to go on overdrive making up for the six runs Kuroda gave up. Rafael Furcal went 3-for-5 going a homer short of the cycle, while both Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp homered. The Dodgers scored at least one run in every inning except for the fourth inning when they were retired in order. Surprisingly enough the Dodgers bullpen pitched 3 1/3 innings without giving up a run - the two runs that scored when George Sherrill gave up the single to Orlando Cabrera were charged to Kuroda. The Dodgers defense was also shaky with two errors which gave the Reds three unearned runs. more ›

Kings Knock out Luongo, Canucks 5-3

Luongo, schmongo. In their first playoff home win since April 27, 2002 against the Colorado Avalanche, the Kings’ special teams battered Canucks’ goalie Roberto Luongo and held on for the 5-3 win in regulation. The Kings went 3-for-3 in power play opportunities with goals by Drew Doughty 11:00 in the first period and two by Michal Handzus at 4:06 and 11:31 in the second period. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Regain Form in Playoff Win Against Thunder

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Regain Form in Playoff Win Against Thunder

LA Lakers defeat Oklahoma City Thunder 87-79. The Lakers responded to all critics and shut down NBA regular season scoring champion Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. With Ron Artest harassing Durant all game long Durant did score 24 however he did have 24 shot attempts - not a good ratio. While Russell Westbrook tried to pick up some slack with 23 points helping the Thunder cut into the Lakers lead in the third quarter. But no one else on the Thunder responded, and the Lakers just did their thing. With Andrew Bynum and Kobe Bryant back in the lineup, it was like the last six weeks didn’t happen. Bynum had 13 points and 12 rebounds while Pau Gasol also had a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Kobe led the Lakers with 21 points. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Regain Swagger in Road Win Over Spurs

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Regain Swagger in Road Win Over Spurs

LA Lakers defeat San Antonio Spurs 92-83. After looking pretty dreadful in the first half, things clicked with the Lakers in the second half. Bad shots, turnovers and a nonexistent defense plagued the Lakers in the first half. But the fourth quarter. Oh boy that fourth quarter. Three Ron Artest steals, one Pau Gasol steal and a... more ›

LAist Night's Action: A Difficult Day

LAist Night's Action: A Difficult Day

LA Lakers defeat Denver Nuggets 116-102. Andrew Bynum played in his first game for the Lakers since being injured in January in Memphis posting up 16 points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes played. All in all not a bad return for the big guy. Meanwhile Pau Gasol gobbled everything in the paint scoring 27 points while grabbing 19 rebounds, 11 of which were of the offense variety.
