Valley Glen Neighborhood Council Votes to Oppose L.A.'s Boycott of Arizona
A neighborhood council last night may have been the first to take action regarding Arizona. In a unanimous vote, the Greater Valley Glen Neighborhood Council voted to "oppose the L.A. City Council’s boycott of Arizona." Furthermore, the panel officially opined "that the Mayor and Councilmember’s time is better spent rectifying the problems in Los Angeles rather than meddling in the affairs of another state.”
What's Happening on Victory Boulevard in Valley Glen?
In an e-mail newsletter, Councilmember Paul Krekorian today reminds us of a project that is four months from breaking ground in Valley Glen. Developers will take a series of now-vacant apartments and turn them into mixed use project, including 100,000 square feet of restaurants and retail, 30,000 feet for a sports club and 100 luxury residential units. But first, there will be facade remodeling of the CVS and Vallerta Market at the Victory Plaza Shopping Center, where a courtyard is also planned.
Chipping Away at Van Nuys: Valley Glen Snags Zip Codes
Valley Glen got a boost in neighborhood pride last week when the US Postal Service finalized the official recognition of the neighborhood by designating all or part of 91401 (Van Nuys), 91405 (Van Nuys) and 91606 (North Hollywood) to be Valley Glen, according to Mark Kellam's neighborhood blog at the Daily News.
Valley Glen Gets Respect on the Freeway
Today, Assemblymember Paul Krekorian (D-Burbank) officially unveiled signs marking the Valley Glen neighborhood along the 170 Freeway. Most signs posted on freeways in the East Valley generalize the area and say North Hollywood, whether you're actually in Studio City or some other community. “I hope these new signs will encourage people traveling along the Hollywood Freeway to explore Valley Glen and enjoy its businesses, restaurants and ambience,” Assemblymember Krekorian said in a press release. Neighborhood Project: Van Nuys
The 96 year-old town of Van Nuys is awash in history and witness to a vibrant international culture exemplified by its many ethnic eateries, shops and government offices. Considered by many to be the nerve center of the San Fernando Valley, Van Nuys, or, The Nuys, is bordered by Sun Valley to its north, Valley Glen to the east, Sherman Oaks to the south, and Lake Balboa to the west.
Barone's 2nd Welcoming: Robbed at Gunpoint
Two weeks ago when we visited Barone's on its re-grand opening for some tasty Valley pizza, we witnessed turf war tagging on the restaurant's back white wall. Not a great welcome for the restaurant in Valley Glen.
Barone's Warm & Cold Welcome
All we could get during dinner hours was a busy signal. Barone's was simply packed last tonight. Angeleno's flocked the staple Valley classic after a six-month hiatus and a northerly move up Woodman Ave. from Sherman Oaks to Valley Glen. A well worthwhile wait, just look at that pizza.
Saying No to McMansions
McMansions, the suburban blight sweeping the rest of the nation has finally arrived in the San Fernando Valley but LA isn't taking it sitting down. The City Council passed an ordinance that effectively limits the building of exceptionally large homes on lots not meant for that size. Several other local communities expect to put into effect similar ordinances. Charlotte Laws, Valley Glen's Councilperson, has some specific non-aesthetic reasons to limit mansionization.
The Morning's Stories

The Daily News takes an even more local look and examines how America's greatest talk show host effected Burbank. Johnny Carson was 79 years old.
