Whooping Cough Cases Doubled in California This Year
Statewide, reported cases of whooping cough, or pertussis, have doubled last year's number from the same time period, according to the LA Times. The increase in cases is cause for concern among health officials, who are urging parents to consider seeking vaccination for all those in the family who come in regular contact with babies.
Last Free Clinics for Swine Flu Vaccinations Announced
Los Angeles County officials announced today the last set of free H1N1 vaccination clinics for residents in the CDC-designated priority groups. “Residents who are in the priority groups for H1N1 vaccine and do not have a regular source of health care are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to receive free vaccine," said Jonathan E. Fielding Director of Public Health and Health Officer.
LA County Rationing Swine Flu Vaccine; High Risk Groups Get Priority
Limited supplies of the in-demand H1N1 Swine Flu vaccine are forcing the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to be very strict in deciding who can get the preventative treatment at area clinics, reports the Daily Breeze. Thousands of people hoping to ward off the infectious virus have swarmed clinics and special vaccination events, however now individuals "not deemed at risk for swine flu are being asked to stay away from county-run vaccination clinics until more supplies become available."
