Sporting Kansas City forward Teal Bunbury buried a penalty kick at the 74th minute to bring the U.S. level with Chile in last night’s friendly at the Home Depot Center.
Bunbury and fellow youngster Juan Agudelo entered the match a mere 15 minutes earlier and had an immediate impact on the match. Together, the two helped energize a U.S. squad that had lost its midfield at around the 30th minute mark.

A feat so shocking, English fans believed the scoreline to be a misprint. England has since hosted and won the World Cup in 1966, but the U.S. game has had its ups and downs.

In case you missed it, FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 kicks off today at 7:00 AM. The tournament's inaugural match will feature the host nation against Mexico.

After many months of analysis and preparation, U.S. Head Coach Bob Bradley announced his final 23 man roster that will be representing the U.S. at the upcoming FIFA World Cup South Africa tournament. As expected, L.A. Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan made the cut and leads the small contingent of MLS players making the trip. Galaxy teammate, forward Edson Buddle and Chivas USA defender Jonathan Bornstein are the other two local players that will be joining Donovan.

Breaking Galaxy News: Donovan Wins Player of the Year & Decade
Landon Donovan, star forward for the L.A. Galaxy and U.S. Men's National Team, has been named 2009 Honda Player of the Year for his achievements with the U.S. Men's National Team. It is the sixth time the speedy forward has won the award after first earning it in 2002.
It was further announced that his dominance throughout these years has also earned him a second award: Honda Player of Decade.

World Cup Wrap Up, Kids Day Out
The U.S. Men's National Team took a big step towards booking a ticket to next year's World Cup in South Africa after a tough win over Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain.
The soca warriors took the game to the Yanks for long stretches during the first half last night as the Yanks looked disorganized and struggled to generate any offense.
Nats Hang On for Win
First half goals by Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore help the U.S. National Team get a victory last night over La Selecta from El Salvador.
The Yanks fell behind at the 32nd minute when Jonathan Bornstein failed to clear a ball cleanly and instead sent it into the box. El Salvador gained possession in the U.S. penalty box and was able to capitalize on a header by Christian Castillo. The goal came after a mixed first 30 minutes of play that saw the U.S. threaten on a few occasions through Charlie Davies and Landon Donovan.

U.S. Advances After Tough Match
FC Dallas forward Kenny Cooper scored a penalty kick goal at the 105th minute to give the U.S. the advantage over Panama in Gold Cup action last night.
The match itself was less than spectacular for the U.S. side. It was a hard fought midfield battle with a slight advantage to the Panamanian side, but not by much. Both teams struggled to get into their opponents offensive third, but when they did, the Panamanians seemed to be the more dangerous side.
Major Upset In South Africa
After nearly 60 years of U.S. soccer history, the famous shot heard round the world from the 1950 World Cup in Brazil now has company. Former UCLA standout Carlos Bocanegra captained a U.S. Men's National Team that on Wednesday evening (South Africa time), defeated the number #1 ranked Spanish team by a score of 2 - 0. The victory earned the U.S. team its first ever finals berth in a FIFA sanctioned competition and also ended the impressive 35 game undefeated streak the Furia Roja had amassed over the last couple of years, which included last year's prestigious European Championship.
Women's Professional Soccer Returns
A little over 5 years since the first attempt at a women's soccer league -- WUSA -- failed to take hold in the States, a new attempt at making it a permanent fixture on the American sports scene will commence. The new Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league begins play at the Home Depot Center this afternoon and will feature Los Angeles Sol and D.C. Freedom in its inaugural match.
Kljestan Leads USA to Victory
Chivas USA's standout midfielder, Sacha Kljestan, led the U.S. National Team to a 3 - 2 victory against Sweden in a friendly played on Saturday night at the Home Depot Center. Kljestan scored all three goals for the Americans, the first of which came on a scorcher of a free kick from about 30 yards out. The U.S. provided the vast majority of the offense in the first half and took a 2 - 0 lead into the locker room. Play evened out in the second half, but the Swedes were unable to overcome their early deficit. Next up for the U.S. is their first match of the final round of qualifying for World Cup 2010 versus Mexico on February 11th in Columbus, Ohio.
