Monsters from "Where the Wild Things Are" are popping up everywhere. Cool Hunting compiled an impressive list of tie-ins, merchandise, and projects associated with the premiere of this Spike Jonze directed film. Images inspired by the movie are found in costumes, apparel, Kubrick toys, limited edition skateboards, and a whimsical pop-up shop at Space 15 Twenty in Hollywood. We headed over to the pop-up shop to see the installation, Urban Outfitters accessories, clothing, and other monster merch. Max's room is the ultimate kids' fort covered in a tapestry of blankets. The wild things world is created out of a twig cave forest and a hollowed out tree trunk filled with pillows. Christian Joy's created exclusive costumes will be donated to 826 National programs.

LA has a diverse cast of characters. Whether it's the characters with stirring stories or interesting occupations or the people who are just simply characters, this town has them all. In an effort to get to know some of those characters a little better, we've created "Seven Questions with..." If you have a suggestion for a future Seven Questions subject send us an email.
Last week, Urban Outfitters had pulled "I Support Same-Sex Marriage" t-shirts off its shelves (both online and in California stores) further fueling the rumors that the trendy young adult clothier is anti-gay. After all Richard Hayne, the founder and CEO of Urban Outfitters, is a right-wing Republican known for supporting senators who oppose gay marriage. But in response to the rumors, an Urban Outfitters spokesman told New York Magazine on Wednesday that the shirts were actually pulled because they weren't selling well and that "the head merchant is open to finding other products that support gay marriage and carry the same message but will be more popular with our customers." The spokesman also pointed out that, hey, the CEO of parent company Urban Outfitters Inc., Glen Senk, is openly gay and has been in a 30-year relationship. So there. H'yeah. Earlier this year the company was in another t-shirt controversy, coming under fire for "supporting terrorism" by selling a "pro-violence" Palestinian T-shirt. They pulled those shirts, too.
The title of this article was going to be Moona Lisa. Then I realized I'm not actually 8, but 28. There I am, jumping next to the latest mural by Nick Walker. (Why am I jumping? Check out the Whiskerino Project, but beware: you might be blown away by sexiness. Unless you don't like beards.) This Banksy-esque lady can be found on La Brea, past Edgewood (see map below). Walker is one of four artists pasting and painting all over the city, who always include a link to a website named itsawonderful-world.com.

Upright Citizen’s Brigade has the hipster comedy scene cornered in a way that could make Wes Anderson weep. The lines to get into their shows look like Urban Outfitters threw up on them, past performers have included the likes of Sarah Silverman and Janeane Garofalo, and one of the founders is uber-hip comedienne Amy Poehler. Their dominance of alt-funny Los Angeles is pretty much undisputed.

It dawned on us the other day that we really do go to the best concerts and we usually write about them the next day or a few days later. So here's a wrap up of all 37 shows we reviewed this month, with links to the posts just in case you missed it. Chris...

Sonic Youth continue to push the envelope. Two weeks ago they let it out that they're going to be working with Starbucks on a cd that will only be sold there, and today we learn that they are going to play a free gig at the Urban Outfitters on the Third Street Promenade. Is that where the Teenage Riots happen these days? Anyways, they're Sonic Youth and because their music has stayed pure throughout...
I haven’t had too many jobs in my life, but I’ve probably been on like at least ten job interviews, and this weekend was another one. But Single Jew Girl, we thought you were supposed to go out with Bachelor #4 this weekend. So did I, my friends…So did I. It looked like a date but really it was an interview, and I don’t think I got the job, or even past the first round....
With clothes made in downtown Los Angeles, indie fashion manufacturer American Apparel is about to be sold for $382.5 million to a "little-known" investment firm. The New York Times reports that the company, founded by the always entertaining Dov Charney, will announce its sale tomorrow. The new owners? Endeavor Acquisition Corporation, owned by Jonathan J. Ledecky, who will keep Charney on as CEO. The sale is almost as surprising as the history of American...
