Upright Citizen’s Brigade has the hipster comedy scene cornered in a way that could make Wes Anderson weep. The lines to get into their shows look like Urban Outfitters threw up on them, past performers have included the likes of Sarah Silverman and Janeane Garofalo, and one of the founders is uber-hip comedienne Amy Poehler. Their dominance of alt-funny Los Angeles is pretty much undisputed.

After performing in a number small venues last year (Largo, Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre, etc .) the Flight of the Conchords made their triumphant return to Los Angeles this week during a sold-out show at the El Rey Theatre on July 11. The growing popularity of the group was apparent in the weeks leading up to the gig, during which people on Craigslist were offering upwards of $300 for a pair of tickets. On...

So Mr. Editor wasn't in the mood to be on this rock spanking internet show-thing, but yours truly took the bait. The DL on AOL. See you think it stands for down low -- but it stands for downloaded. The internet can be clever and quick on its toes that way. Ah, that AOL. Their music channel is called Spinner and the DL is one of five links they have to different music reviews and music news.

We love Jill Soloway. We love Upright Citizen's Brigade. We love when the two come together and make latkes. Well, the two are coming together tonight and are being even extra Jewish. THURSDAY

Hanukkah comes to us a little late this year, and so close to Christmas, which means those who partake in the menorah-lighting will have more to do this weekend, and it means we've taken very liberal license to make an excess of Christmukkah references (G-d bless you, Seth Cohen). The fun of Hanukkah is a little less in-your-face than the merriment of Xmas (that is unless you drive on Fairfax with any regularity), and the foodstuff appeals to all kinds of goys, girls, and boys. This LAist confesses to being of dual heritage upon dual heritage: Yes, we're Canadian and (kind of) American, and we come from Jewish and Christian stock (throw in a birthday exactly between Christmas and New Year's and you've got one maxed out on holiday spirit kid here, thanks!). So while we do hang the stockings with care, we also know a thing or two about those "eight crazy nights" (not so much thanking Mr. Sandler after too many years of that little ditty).

The Apiary has an interview with Matt Besser of the Upright Citizen's Brigade. Of interest is the announcement that the Upright Citizen's Brigade LA Theatre and training center will open for classes on July 2nd and have their grand public opening on September 9th. Most of the initial improv classes are already sold out but you can still get in on the 101 classes starting on July 9th and July 11th.
