Deep in the heart of Los Angeles' theater district, after all the patrons have gone home, there is a lot of rock 'n' roll going on. Surprised? I was too. Specifically, one evening a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of stopping by the Unknown Theater after hours. This is where Elemenopy hold court every other Thursday. With a motto like "F the genre police," Elemenopy that is a band that will play what they like when they like. Their catchy melodies and funny lyrics reminded me strongly of They Might Be Giants or the Barenaked Ladies. But what is more exciting is the way they perform.

In what their promotional materials call "a theatrical tour-de-force," Hollywood's Unknown Theater continues its 2008 Dance Series with Lean To Productions' evening length An Attic An Exit for two weeks (Thursday-Sunday July 17-27).
Earlier this year, choreographer Meg Wolfe received a Lester Horton award for her tireless work for the Los Angeles dance community. These Horton awards are akin to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) citations, in that the artists, themselves, make the selections and vote for the awardees. Ms. Wolfe took it all in stride, smiling while keeping track of the monthly Anatomy Riot showcases that she curates, the weekly DanceBank class program she organizes and a myriad of who-knows-what-else is going on in her life.

Ever wonder how your local news anchor could read the horrifying details of the latest terrorist attack, natural disaster or political scandal without breaking down and screaming their head off? Playwright, Kyle T. Wilson did, and penned a very funny play in the process, “Walking Into Traffic.” Directed by Chris Covics who was recently named one of the top ten artists to watch in Los Angeles by L.A. Stage Magazine, “Walking into Traffic” is...
The Key Club gets top billing tonight because The Bronx headlines a benefit for Wheels for Humanity, which supplies wheelchairs. Also on the bill : Chuck Ragan (ex-Hot Water Music) with members of Flogging Molly, and some rock star karaoke. Everyone will probably be there for either the ice skating or Great Northern, but The Submarines came out with a haunting CD that we played all summer long. Go downtown and ice skate from...
