Hard Summer was supposed to go all night at the Forum in Inglewood last night, and the sold out event had the venue packed (it seats 18,000). But for some reason, before things could even get too intense, the event was shut down by authorities. LA Times' music blog Pop & Hiss explains:

Saturday's all-night electronic event Hard Summer at the Forum was shut down by midnight. The event was declared a "hazard" by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, according to an Inglewood police representative. Based on the county department's recommendation, Hard Summer was called off. [...]

Tonight HARD Summer, a massive multi-stage festival boasting a bevy of prominent electronic acts like Underworld, Chromeo, Crookers, Tiga, SebastiAn, the Bloody Beetroots and many more, will be taking place at the Forum. This year's Rock the Bells, which features the likes of Nas, Damian Marley, Ice Cube, The Roots, Common, Busta Rhymes, RZA, GZA, Raekwon, Slum Village, the Knux (LAist Interview) and many more, is set to take place at San Manuel Amphiteatre. Local producer/musician extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Interview, #2, Review) will be jamming at Largo at the Coronet with none other than Wilco guitarist Nels Cline (LAist Interview). And, lastly, Bergen-based experimental indie pop outfit Casiokids will be performing at Spaceland with the Wave Pictures and Slow Club in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Getty Center to catch San Francisco-based psych-folk-pop act the Dodos for this week's edition of Saturdays Off the 405.

Throughout the world, in major cities, there are legends of strange humanoids and elusive creatures living beneath the streets. In New York there were once many rumors of alligators occupying the sewer systems, and such creatures have been dredged up from below. In London there was once lore pertaining to subterranean folk inhabiting the gloomy, unused tunnels, but such whispers were never proven. Los Angeles is no exempt from the weirdness...

People often say that Los Angeles isn't a great audience to play to. Everyone kinda stands back, detached. I've seen it happen, but I don't believe in it. And the Underworld show on Sunday night is just the kind of night Los Angeles isn't known for. And I'm pleased to say that I was a part of it. But before we continue, a public service announcement: Do not park at the dirt parking lot...

Like many Americans, the first time I heard Underworld was in Trainspotting, the 1996 Danny Boyle movie when "Born Slippy.nuxx" plays over the ending. Eleven years on, I still explain Underworld this way, and some people remember it. I think that's a testament to both the song and the movie.
