UCSB Named By Playboy as Top 10 Party School

UCSB Named By Playboy as Top 10 Party School

Playboy has named UC Santa Barbara as one of the country's Top 10 Party Schools of 2010. The only California campus to make the cut, at UCSB their #8 ranking is credited to their "perfect mix of sun goddesses, sand and studying." Of course, being included in this 5th annual list isn't purely academic. Okay, so it's not really academic at all. Notes Playboy: "UCSB grads go on to do great things after their six years in college." So who's summa cum laude for the 2010 party class? It's the deep thinkers of the University of Texas at Austin. One LA school earned an honorable mention: USC, for the "hottest cheerleaders." Trojan pride, indeed. Previously: UCSB Ranked 10th Best Party School in the Nation (2008). more ›

But if peace and quiet are your thing, cruise up the 101 in a week or two when pretty... more ›

Matt Welch of the LA Times' Top 10 Best Things About Working for the Evil MSM

A long time ago in a peninsula far far away (if a 90 minute drive is far), there was a college newspaper so good that Matt Welch's only regular writing assignment was the two or three sentences in the Weather box. Though this was late-'80s Santa Barbara and the weather for an entire year was Sunny and Mild (we were in the midst of a year-long drought), somehow Welch's Weather box was one of... more ›

Isla Vista Halloween 2006

Isla Vista Halloween 2006

It's true, LAist loves Isla Vista. It's our LA away from LA, OK? And what a better place to rage than a college town with excellent Mexican food, too many beaches, and more weed than Snoop Dogg's glove compartment after the Burbank airport cops "searched" through his Caddy. This weekend UCSB lived up to the myth and flickr user lightscripture documented the fashion show. After the jump, sample a small percentage of his fabulous... more ›
