LA's Ten Best Places To Buy, Eat Exotic Foods
Tonight In Rock: Iron And Wine, Foster The People, Seasons, Typhoon
Tonight South Carolina-bred folk maestro Iron and Wine will be closing out a two-night stint, touring in support of his latest endeavor—2011's Kiss Each Other Clean. Highland Park's own experimental rockers Seasons will be performing for free, in-store at Origami Vinyl with none other than the Hectors for a split 7" release.
And, lastly, Portland-based indie rockers Typhoon will be gracing the Satellite, formerly known as Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch LA-based indie rock trio Foster the People.
Prosecutors Want Charges Dismissed Against The Hump in Endangered Whale Meat Sushi Case
The Santa Monica restaurant found to be serving endangered whale meat sushi could find themselves off the proverbial hook, according to an AP report published on cbs2. Federal prosecutors are moving to dismiss the charges against Typhoon Restaurant, Inc., the parent company of the now-closed The Hump, and 45-year-old chef Kiyoshiro Yamamoto.
What's Next for The Hump's Location? Possibly a Vegan Restaurant
Now that The Hump, the sushi joint that was caught serving illegal whale meat, has closed, the municipally owned space is empty and possibly up for a new tenant. And who's in line vying for it? Ady Gil, the millionaire owner of American Hi-Def and animal rights activist and philanthropist who most recently donated a boat to the Sea Shepherds (the boat was soon damaged when a Japanese whaler boat crashed into it).
Simone White, Oren Lavie, Jim Bianco & Gary Jules @ Hotel Cafe, 12/16/08
Earlier this month, local singer-songwriter Gary Jules concluded his "Old School Tuesdays" residency at the Hotel Cafe (MySpace) in Hollywood, supported by openers Simone White (MySpace), Oren Lavie (MySpace), and Jim Bianco (MySpace). At first a space for jazz musicians, the Hotel Cafe was revitalized as an alternative to Largo -- for early-adopters Jules, Bianco, and Joshua Radin (MySpace) -- a fact that hasn't been lost on Jules, who reminsinced during his set about those early days.
