The TV Show "Twin Peaks" has inspired spoofs, geocities pages lost to posterity and lots of art — but no piece has been quite as delicious as the red vines mosaic of the notorious Red Room on display in Echo Park.

"Monsterpiece Theatre" Tackles a Darn Fine Mystery
There are two questions we must raise first: 1. Who killed Laura Palmer? 2. Where were you on the night of April 8, 1990? For your video lunch today, instead of something from "Twin Peaks," we're taking the tribute/spoof/Sesame Street route with this installation of "Monsterpiece Theatre," called "Twin Beaks," in which Cookie Monster attempts to uncover why the town is called "Twin Beaks."

TV Junkie: (Not So) Big Wednesday
If you don't want to watch football over the next 4 days you are screwed. Normally I would tell you to head over to TCM or IFC for some fine movie action but it's slim pickins my friends. TCM has (lamely) decided to schedule a 3 day Andy Hardy marathon starring everyone's favorite short actor, Mickey Rooney, as the misguided but lovable Andy Hardy. One or two Andy Hardy movies is fine, but several days...
Scary Movies: The Haunting (1963)
There is a moment just before fear takes over when you freeze, when the body pauses to assess the danger. What was that noise? Was it just the wind? Could something be out there? The Haunting mirrors that experience of hearing a bump in the night. The film uses a vague sense of uneasiness to allow the tension to slowly build, without ever giving us the release of screaming. Camera angles are used to make...
DVD Review: The Lost Room
I confess to being somewhat of a geek. I read Zapp comics, collect vinyl records and can recite Monty Python sketches verbatum. Which I guess makes me a "stoner-variety" geek. I am not a "braniac-geek" of the chess club, sci-fi variety. I don't watch the Sci-Fi channel unless TiVo decides I have to watch Outer Limits. Because TiVo is my god and must be obeyed.
Win Tickets to INLAND EMPIRE DVD Screening with David Lynch
You may think he’s a brilliant director, with Twin Peaks, The Elephant Man, and Mulholland Drive among his long list of film and TV projects, not to mention four Academy Award nominations. Or you may think he’s got a few screws loose with his strict adherence to transcendental meditation and the generally bizarre nature of his work. Whatever the case, you can’t deny that he’s interesting. Now you get the chance to decide for yourself...

The Owls Are Not What They Seem - Twin Peaks Screening @ The Mandrake
“Whassup Haterz I’m At The Mandrake” reads the tee-shirt above the cocktail menu at Culver City’s most darling art-bar located on a once desolate stretch of La Cienega just north of Washington Blvd. The Mandrake, decorated in one part rustic, one part modern and two parts sauna is host to rotating exhibits, DJ events, film & TV screenings and of course, thirsty locals. Nearby gallery owners and creative purveyors in the areas of fashion design,...
Showtime Orders a Soap Script from Bret Easton Ellis
In a step in the right direction to keep from getting too far behind its competition, Showtime has decided to work with controversial novelist Bret Easton Ellis on a soap opera, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Dubbed "The Canyon", Ellis will be working with the cable network to produce something that (sadly) sounds more like "Friday the 13th" than "Twin Peaks". The six main characters -- including an art gallery owner, lawyer, event planner...
The Evidence Room's Last-Days-Of-Summer Reading
Still no word on the future of Bart DeLorenzo's Evidence Room company, but an email on the sadly quiet company mailing list this week recommends two "ER-related offerings": actress Pamela Gordon's poignant last film, The Dogwalker, premiering tonight at the Laemmle Music Hall, and a new novel, The Glass Books Of The Dream Eaters, by ER playwright Gordon Dahlquist (Delirium Palace (2001), Messalina (2003)).
