JC Penney Decides That No One is Too Pretty for Homework

L.A. has a(n unfair) reputation for being superficial, but even here, a t-shirt that reads "I'm Too Pretty For Homework" wouldn't fly. The full text of the shirt, made by JC Penney, was "I'm too pretty to do homework, so my brother has to do it for me." It was marketed to 7-16 year old girls and was made, ironically, by a company called Self Esteem, reports KTLA. more ›

Hells Angels in the News Again, This Time Being Sought for Assault

Hells Angels in the News Again, This Time Being Sought for Assault

The Hells Angels are all over the news these days. First, they sued a Silver Lake clothing company for its quaint repurposing of their name, and now four members of the gang's San Diego chapter are being sought by law enforcement for their involvement in beatings that took place in 2007 and 2010 . The LA Times reports that the four men -- David Dabbs, 41; Dustin Harroun, 30; Stephen Sanders, 42, and Troy Scholder, 30 -- took part in assaults on a club member and a club associate in El Cajon. more ›

The Day the T-Shirt Died: Hells Angels Sue Silver Lake Clothing Company

Apparently, motorcycle gangs don't like it when their names are appropriated to sell cutesy t-shirts to hipster girls. Weird, huh? But it's true. According to CBS News, the Hells Angels motorcycle gang is suing Silver Lake-based clothing company Wildfox Couture over a t-shirt made by the company that reads: "My Boyfriend's A Hells Angel." more ›

Arnold Schwarzenegger Wears 'I SURVIVED MARIA' T-Shirt Out For A Bike Ride

Arnold Schwarzenegger finally answered a big one. Question: When does a fashion faux pas become a fashion F-you? Answer: When a husband wears a t-shirt out in public that says "I SURVIVED MARIA" with the dates of their marriage written on the back while attempting to settle divorce proceedings with his betrayed wife who discovered he fathered a child with another woman. more ›

Public High School Teacher Labeled Student Wearing Pro-Gay T-Shirt a 'Sinner'

A student at Paloma Valley High in Menifee was branded a "sinner" by their teacher after the student wore a t-shirt that said "Gay is Good" to class. The teacher, whose identity has not been released, "drew an “S” on the hand of a student," to symbolize "sinner," according to CBS2, and referred to the student, whose identity is also being kept private, multiple times as such. more ›

Wearing White: Betty White's Clothing Line Debuts Next Month

What can't Betty White do? The last Golden Girl standing is still going strong at 88. She's following up a record-setting appearance on SNL with a new series, and now she's "launching her own line of T-shirts and hoodies that will hit stores in August," says WWD. White is working with Van Nuys-based Jerry Leigh apparel to produce a line of t-shirts and hoodies that boast her image in a variety of artistic renderings. Forget White's senior citizenship--the hoodies are as plugged-in as you can get. They "feature washable earbuds and a jack to plug into iPods and MP3 players." A portion of the sales will benefit White's pet cause, the Morris Animal Foundation. more ›

School's T-Shirt Slogan Was Actually Sex Chat Line Number

School's T-Shirt Slogan Was Actually Sex Chat Line Number

Sounds like a tame enough idea: Print up some t-shirts with the school mascot running and make a slogan out of one of those 800 numbers that uses words instead of digits. Only one of the parents from Linda Vista Elementary School in Yorba Linda decided to give the presumably made-up number a whirl and found that number was something else entirely, according to the Pasadena Star-News... more ›

Trojan T-Shirt of the Week

Trojan T-Shirt of the Week

There were two excellent photo essays documenting the high spirits of USC Trojan fans as they walked in to the Coliseum ready to crush another unworthy opponent. The first photo essay was posted last night on the LA Times USC blog by our very own Adam Rose (who has seemed to have gotten way better access after making the move), and the other was here on LAist by our very own Rob Takata. Both... more ›

T-Shirt of the Month - Free The Bitch

T-Shirt of the Month - Free The Bitch

While walking through Los Feliz yesterday we spotted these hot tshirts at Y-Que on Vermont. Not only do you have your choice of the Free the Bitch or Keep the Bitch tees (depending on which side of the law you're currently on), but apparently there's now a Free the Bitch Again shirts. Y-Que, of course, being the store that has the sweet-ass MacArthur Park tshirts that we love so. But back to Paris... yesterday... more ›

Football Flaunts An F-bomb

Football Flaunts An F-bomb

While this is hardly the first time a bare midriff and cheap dye-job have swayed an otherwise discerning focus, we at LAist would like to commend this cameraperson for their pro-obscenity stance and their “fair & balanced” coverage of today's Eagles/Saints game. Bravo. Down with FCC regulation. Down with sportsmanship. Down with spelling. Up with people. Go Birds. Photos by Jeremy Weinstein... more ›
