Tonight In Rock: Travis, Sunny Day Real Estate, People Under The Stairs, Part Time Punks Festival

Tonight Fran Healy and Andy Dunlop of Scottish alternative rock outfit Travis will be taking on the penultimate night a sold-out four-show stint at Largo at the Coronet. Thes One and Double K, the self-proclaimed B-boys of People Under The Stairs, are poised to headline the Key Club in Hollywood. And, lastly, the Raincoats, Crystal Stilts, Abe Vigoda and WEAVE!, among many, many others, will be commandeering the Echo and the Echoplex for this year's Part Time Punks Festival. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into the Henry Fonda Music Box to catch Seattle-based indie rock progenitors Sunny Day Real Estate. LAist favorites, local indie rockers the Jealous Sound are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Travis, Chromeo, Metronomy, O'Death

Tonight Fran Healy and Andy Dunlop of Scottish alternative rock outfit Travis will be kicking off a sold-out two-night stint at Largo at the Coronet. Montreal-based electro funk duo Chromeo are poised to DJ at Club 740 in anticipation of their latest contribution to the famed DJ Kicks series. And, lastly, Brooklyn-bred Americana act O'Death will be headlining Spaceland with none other than local rock and roll outfit Slang Chickens. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Roxy to catch LAist's favorite English electro pop outfit Metronomy (LAist Review). LA-based afro-centric indie pop act Fool's Gold are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: Leonard Cohen, Travis, Jon Brion, Monotonix

Tonight Canadian poet, novelist and singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen will be taking on a two-date stint at Club Nokia in Downtown. Scottish pop rockers Travis are poised to headline the Wiltern with LAist favorites the Republic Tigers (LAist Interview) in tow. As always, local producer/multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion (LAist Review) will be jamming with friends at Largo at the Coronet. And, lastly, Winnetka-bred experimental beat-maker Flying Lotus will be gracing the Echoplex. But we strongly suggest stopping by Spaceland to check out Israeli shock rock troupe Monotonix (LAist Review).

Tonight rappers Method Man and Redman will be performing at the House of Blues Sunset. We can only surmise that they'll be performing songs from 1999's Blackout!. Brit-rockers Travis is set to play to a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour. Florida's own Copeland will be shelling out saccharine indie pop songs at the El Rey Theatre in support of 2008's You Are My Sunshine. You'll surely get your fix of falsetto. Brooklyn-based pop rockers Bishop Allen will be performing at the Echo. And, lastly, psych rock act Spindrift will be celebrating the release of their forthcoming full length, 2008's The West, with grizzly blues rock duo Restavrant at the Roxy. But we suggest heading over to the Echoplex to catch Indie 103's Check One Twosday. Local indie rock songbirds Earlimart will be accompanied by Red Cortez, formerly known as the Weather Underground.

As we mentioned in our interview with Questlove, LAist was on the red carpet for the 5th Annual Roots Jam Session at the Key Club in West Hollywood. While we were hoping that this post would serve as a review of the best live band in the world jamming the night away with a little help from some of their friends, we'll happily settle for the chance to rub elbows with the big names, not-so-big names, and what's their names? that walked the red carpet on Saturday night in support of Rock the Vote and The Roots.

Londonist are starting to think their city is getting just a little bit too expensive, when even Christian Slater can't afford to go out there. And there's no escaping, as local singer Lily Allen discovered when she was barred entry to the US. The British mapping agency caused further bad karma, by blocking a 3-D representation of London in Google Earth. But the smiles returned to Londonist's faces as they interviewed Baroness von Reichardt, who has completely covered her house in mosaic tiles.

If you have watched any primetime television or new release movies you have most likely heard the bombastic sounds of Snow Patrol. In the past year alone the Scottish group has been featured in more than ten films and television shows; their single "Chasing Cars" was featured on the ABC show Grey's Anatomy not once, not twice, but three times. They are also Zach Braff-approved, with songs on both Garden State and The Last Kiss.

Game 2 goes tonight at the Honda Center as superstar Travis Moen and the Anaheim Ducks host Ray "Don Magic" Emery and the Ottawa Senators. All the buzz thus far has been about how Anaheim's top checking line of Sammy Pahlsson, Rob Niedermayer and Travis Moen have outplayed Ottawa's top scoring line of Jason Spezza, Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson.

The Ducks have waddled one step closer to the Stanley Cup. A 3-2 win in Game 1 sent 18,000 Anaheim Ducks of Anaheim fans home in a tizzy. Of course, the other 9,982,000 citizens in the Los Angeles area are probably wondering what all the fuss is about. If they even noticed. You can get the details of the actual game anywhere. How the Senators ran out of steam in the third period. How...

If you haven't seen some of your friends online today it might be because they're stuck at the Indio Greyhound station with dozens of fans trying to get home.

When reviewers of Saturday's KCRW Sounds Eclectic concert yawned at the surprise guest, Travis, they overlooked what they actually had in front of them. Namely the dynamic guitar duo Rodrigo Y Gabriela; and the pouty, sarcastic starlet-of-the-moment Lily Allen. When you have lightening in a bottle one one hand, and an unpredictable foul-mouthed princess on the other - and they both showed up - then you have a successful event. Today it was announced...

Clippers 118, Lakers 110 - Go big or go home, but what if both teams are already home? Then both teams go big. Kobe had another 50 point night and nine rebounds, but was upstaged by Corey Maggette's career high 39 to go with eight rebounds and nine assists and Elton Brand's 32 with 12 rebounds and seven assists. The Lakers were up by 10 in the fourth quarter, but were outscored 26-8 down the...

There’s a reason why we haven’t heard much about David Mamet’s 1974 one-act Squirrels. While it has its comic moments, the play doesn’t pack the literary punch of Mamet’s better known work like Oleanna, Glengarry Glen Ross or Sexual Perversity in Chicago. (Some die-hard Mamet fans might even make a case for The Unit on CBS, which Mamet created.) In a nutshell, Squirrels focuses on Arthur’s (Oscar Don Smith) writer’s block, and his attempt...

A Word or 108: Superbowl Redux: I found myself wandering over to the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet a couple times yesterday, and that isn't a bad thing -- the kitten halftime show was excellent. Almost all the Superbowl commercials had been leaked onto the web a week ago so there was nothing new there. I still can't understand why, with all those professionals there, that it would take almost Prince's entire (fantastic) set...

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here together in the sight of Rock and in the face of Roll, to join together you, dear LAist reader, and this New Music Tuesday in holy Matrimony. This mystical union is not to be entered into lightly, or unadvisedly, but reverently, discreetly, advisedly, soberly (ha), and in the fear of the reaper. More cowbell. L'chaim. OUT TODAY: .38 Special - 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: (A&M)...

Clearly, things are amiss in Memphis. Maybe it’s something in the water. Maybe it’s too humid there. I really don’t know. Whatever the reason, it brought some truly special behavior to last night’s auditions.

Like a presidential election, the information is trickling into the newsroom... Earlier today Andy let everyone know who most of the confirmed artists would be for this year's Coachella. The other day LAist posted a link to Travis Barker's MySpace page where he went off about his ex-wife embarrassing him and their kids by being so public about her Las Vegas Divorce Party tonight at the Bellagio. We even took his side in the tragic divorce, which was hard for us because after watching their MTV reality show, he seemed like a freaky prick. Shanna, the former Playboy centerfold and Miss USA, fired back...
