SlutWalk LA: Saturday, 6/4 @ West Hollywood Park

When Toronto police officer Michael Sanguinetti told a group of students at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in January that the women among them should avoid "dressing like sluts" lest they be raped, little did he know that he was about to spark a movement. Outraged by the incident -- and others like it -- local activists Heather Jarvis and Sonya Barnett launched SlutWalk, described on its website as a mission to spread the word that "those who experience sexual assault are not the ones at fault, without exception." more ›

LAist Movie Review: Breakfast With Scot

LAist Movie Review: Breakfast With Scot

This fall, what with the elections and Prop 8 on the ballot and Anze Kopitar’s seven year deal, it seems like all of the stars are aligning for a movie like Breakfast With Scot. Stars such as Tom Cavanagh and ... that guy from Angels In America ... Besides, Cavanagh’s NBC series Ed wrapped in 2004, which is perfect because the show sucked AND Cavanagh had plenty of time prepare for his starring role as a gay ex-Toronto Maple Leafs bruiser-turned-sportscaster. more ›

I Did it with a Wiffle Ball Bat this Weekend

With the Western Conference Champion Los Angeles Lakers (ahhhhhhh, that's nice) on hold for a week and the Blue Crew in the Big Apple taking on the Metropolitans, there's free stuff in Anaheim this weekend at Angel Stadium. The Angels (32-23) take on the Toronto Blue Jays (30-26) tonight through Sunday afternoon. Every Friday night home game ends with Big Bang fireworks which feel pretty damn close, especially if you're up in the nose bleeds. You may get a singed eyebrow or two. more ›

Kwame traded to Grizzlies for Gasol

The LA Times has just confirmed the rumor that the 9 million dollar statue of Kwame Brown has just been traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, along with 2007 first round draft pick Javaris Crittenton and 2008 and 2010 first round picks. In exchange, the Lakers are picking up the way more competent Pau Gasol. Lakers Win Despite Injuries

    Lakers Win Despite Injuries

It would have been a much prettier victory had the Lakers played the New York Knicks at home three weeks ago. Today’s Knicks are hardly the bruisers of yesteryear, and it often appears as though Isiah Thomas rates coaching his team a distant third priority behind office poon and gourmet popcorn. But these last few weeks have been tough on the Lakers, with Andrew Bynum and Trevor Ariza out for 8 weeks each, resulting in a steady slip from #1 in the western conference to three and a half games back after losing 4 of their last 5, making last night’s contest a little tougher than it should have been. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Sting Hornets

Lakers 109, Hornets 80 - Two of the hottest teams in the NBA met in New Orleans, but only one of them lived up to the billing. Los Angeles thumped the Hornets despite playing on back-to-back nights and New Orleans having several days of rest. Maybe they just got cold.
