July is National Parks & Recreation Month, and all month long LAist will be featuring a hand-selected park a day to showcase just a few of the wonderful recreation spaces--big or small--in the Los Angeles area.
A Park a Day: Topanga State Park
This is the Time of Year to Visit Temescal Canyon Falls
Just off Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades, Temescal Gateway Park and the trails that loop into the massively large Topanga State Park mine as well be considered the Runyon Canyon of the Westside. Hiking the near 4-mile loop from the the parking lot along the Temescal Canyon and Viewpoint Trails you'll see dozens of runners, solo exercise zealots and plenty of families and groups of friends chatting it up as they make their way through.
Closed or Not, Topanga State Park to be Re-Envisioned
It's about 18 square miles in size, has more than 60 entrances, contains 36 miles of trails and is surrounded by eight communities, but the last time any plan was set in motion about Topanga State Park was in 1977 (.pdf). This year, state officials are revisiting the parks' general plan, which in essence revisions the park's future development and programming.
