TV Junkie: 'SouthLAnd' Will Return! Stephen King's Project Moves Forward; Future of TV News

As anticipated, HBO's Saturday broadcast of You Don't Know Jack was phenomenal - Al Pacino was brilliant and the film was so well done, it's definitely getting Emmy nominations and probably some wins. Watch it on reruns or OnDemand. Similarly, "Breaking Bad" continues to be one of the best programs on television - last night's episode was suspenseful and intense from start to finish. Be sure to check out our interview with series star Dean Norris, who plays DEA agent Hank Schrader, who provides some great perspective on his character and the series. more ›

TV Junkie: Showtime Premieres 'Nurse Jackie' & 'United States of Tara'

TV Junkie: Showtime Premieres 'Nurse Jackie' & 'United States of Tara'

There's a lot of new TV on tonight with plenty of premieres and finales. Foremost among the premieres are Showtime's "Nurse Jackie" (see today's interviews w/Edie Falco, Peter Facinelli, etc.) and "The United States of Tara" - both half-hour dramedies with more of an emphasis on drama than comedy. With "Nurse Jackie" (10pm) you have the incomparable multi-Emmy winning Edie Falco supported by a more than capable cast with Peter Facinelli in a role much better suited to him than you will ever see in the Twilight film series. We've seen most of season 2 and it inspired us to go back and re-watch the season 1 DVDs, it is that good. more ›

DVD Tuesday: Most Successful Movie Ever?

Following its stunning financial success earlier this year, Paranormal Activity received its required backlash from the cynical (e.g. it wasn't even that scary!). I'd rather focus my attention on the sheer improbability of it all. Folks, this is a film that was made for around $15,000 that went on to gross $107M at the domestic box office. That is an astonishing achievement, both for the filmmakers and the marketing team at Paramount who saw something special where few else did. I say see it! What's a weirder coincidence -- that we would have two films released with the same title in the same year (9, Nine) or that both would come in with high expectations and turn out to be sort of dull? Jennifer's Body should have just been called Megan's Tits. Hey Glee fans -- we get it. You like the show. Modern Family is still much funnier. Accept it. The Swimmer's Nude Massage? WTF? more ›

New Movie Friday: Danielson Doc, Dead Hookers, Depraved Psychos & Cute Orphans

New Movie Friday: Danielson Doc, Dead Hookers, Depraved Psychos & Cute Orphans

Danielson: A Family Movie (or Make a Joyful Noise Here) - A music documentary about oddball indie/pop/folk band the Danielson Famile. The film features appearances by Daniel Johnston and Steve Albini, as well as a young Sufjan Stevens, who was mentored by the band's "patriarch," Daniel Smith, and whose success would soon grow to outshine that of the Danielson Famile.

The Dead Girl - Writer-director Karen Moncrieff (Blue Car) weaves together five seemingly unrelated stories that reveal the circumstances surrounding the death of a young prostitute (Brittany Murphy). The ensemble cast includes Toni Collette, Marcia Gay Harden, Piper Laurie and Rose Byrne.

The Hitcher - Remake of the 1986 horror film, this time starring Sophia Bush and Zachary Knighton as a college couple stalked and terrorized by an evil hitchhiker (Sean Bean). Who knows? It might be sweet and quaint to recall a time when people actually picked up hitchhikers.

The Italian - Russian drama about a six-year-old boy who is on the verge of being adopted by an Italian couple but decides to run away and search for his mother. more ›
