The good news is, I am not a jinx. Going into tonight's game, the Dodgers had a 19-12 home record. Their record with me in attendance? 7-9. I was considering staying home and just listening to Vin on TV as I seem to have a negative effect on the team and I was on a three game losing streak. But last night, the curse was broken. How appropriate it be broken by a fellow......

Lovable modern-day ironman Cal Ripken Jr., and just as lovable Tony Gwynn were voted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame today with 537 and 532 votes, respectively, from the Baseball Writers Association of America. The five extra votes for Ripken somehow say that durability (and, let's face it, a lot of luck) is better than a career .337 average, five gold gloves, and a career high .394 average? Although he didn't get......

Tomorrow morning the inductees of Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame will be announced, and this morning the writers over at MLB.com, showing a nice bit of transparency, listed their picks, in order. Three Dodger greats (Steve Garvey, Tommy John, Orel Hershiser) are on the ballot but have little chance of making it in. Unfortunately, the Baseball Writers Association of America does not recognize LAist writers or editors, which is sad because this would......

The last thing the Dodgers needed was another catastrophic injury. With Eric Gagne's elbow, Milton Bradley's finger and knee, JD Drew's wrist, and Odalis Perez's back, what more could go wrong? That question was answered yesterday when it was reported that shortstop Cesar Izturis will undergo Tommy John surgery in his right elbow, and is likely out until July 2006. This is a rather stunning development because usually pitchers are the only ones to......

There was one bit of silver lining this week for the Dodgers, in the wake of their disappointing play. After we freaked out last week, and thought Eric Gagne's career might be over, there was good news on the Dr. Frank Jobe surgery front. It turns out Gagne didn't need Tommy John surgery after all, and his elbow pain was due to an irritated nerve. Gagne will still miss the rest of the season,......

It has been an absolutely disastrous week for the Dodgers. While every team gets injuries, the DePodesta haters have plenty of ammunition to fire now that the Azul have lost eight straight games. Just a few weeks ago, were saying that Dodgers main problem rest in a rotation wrecked by injuries, and some ineffectiveness. But suddenly, the pitching has come around, and the Dodger bats have just died. The Dodgers have seen seven quality......

Just when things were getting good, the Dodgers have had a devastating week. Aside from being swept by the lowly Kansas City Royals, Eric Gagne has been placed on the DL and might have a career threatening injury. Depending on the extent of the tear in Gagne's elbow, which won't be known for at least another week, Gagne might need to have Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career. We're hoping......

We've been on Darren Dreifort's case a lot lately, but you can't help but feel for the guy. For the fourth consecutive year, Dreifort will stop pitching early because of a season-ending injury. Sure, signing Dreifort to a 5-year $55 million contract in 2000 was pure lunacy, but even the most pessimistic fans could not have foreseen that Dreifort would have a second address at the hospital. Here is the Dreifort file over his......
