It's time to squeeze every possible inch of space on our already-congested freeways for use at their maximum potential. On the 110 and 10 Freeways, the plan of attack is called the ExpressLane project, and while it's kicking off a little later than expected, it will have its ground breaking today in Gardena, making way for toll lanes on about 25 miles of freeway.
Toll Lanes Coming to the 10 and 110 Freeways. Will You Pay to Play?
Would You Pay $1.40/Mile to Use the Carpool Lane Solo?
Metro wants to test out their own brand of congestion pricing called ExpressLanes, which would allow solo drivers to access carpool lanes for a price. For one year, starting in December 2010, Metro will convert carpool lanes on the I-10 (El Monte Busway) and the I-110 (Harbor Freeway Transitway) freeways to toll lanes.
The Price of Gas Takes its Toll
When it comes to the cost of a gallon of gas these days, it certainly doesn't seem to be the case that "it can't get any worse." We grumbled when it got to $3, winced when it hit $3.40, cringed when it hovered at the $4 mark, and now we're seeing prices in the $4.40 range at pumps all over SoCal. And, in true trend-setting fashion, our high gas prices have finally inspired the rest of the country to catch up; the national average is now over $4 a gallon.
