TV Junkie: HBO Premieres Pilot of Star-Studded 'Luck' on Sunday + New 'After Lately'
"Brides of Beverly Hills" Store Raided, Deputies Seize All Wedding Dresses
Renee Strauss' fancy wedding dresses and star-treatment customer service may have landed her a TLC reality show, but her failure to pay the amount she owes in a lawsuit judgment has landed her a raid and seizure of her merchandise.
Good News, Bad News: Kat Von D & Jesse James Back Together, TLC Cancels 'L.A. Ink'
There's some good news and/or bad news in the world of Los Angeles-based tattoo artist and eyebrow-raiser Kat Von D, however which category applies in either case is up to you.
First, when it comes to her work life, Von D has one less gig on her agenda, after TLC announced they are ending her series "L.A. Ink" this season. The finale will air September 15th.
TV Junkie: Aaron Sorkin Blasts Palin & TLC; Rossellini's 'Green Porno' on Sundance; #MOACA gets WGA Nom
Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin blasted Sarah Palin's show on TLC in a piece for the Huffington Post today. We agree that the TLC program is nothing more than a political vehicle for Palin and that TLC should be ashamed at providing her with this unrestricted tool to broadcast her absurd viewpoints. TLC has yet to provide similar programming space to people with more brains and better ideas than Palin so we're boycotting the network.

10,000-Pound Rice Krispy Treat in La Canada-Flintridge Breaks World Record
Talk about a sugar high (or coma). Yesterday, a fundraiser for children’s art’s programs at the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge broke the Guinness World Record for world’s largest Rice Krispies Treat.
TV Junkie Interview: George Duran - Host of TLC's Ultimate Cake Off
There are cooking shows, cooking competition shows, cake shows, and cake competition shows but none of them ratchet these elements to the extreme of TLC's "Ultimate Cake Off": nine hours to make a cake at least five feet tall for an actual event with a real client, and real people waiting to eat it, oh, and just $10,000 on the line.
OctoMom-ma Docu Drama: Life, Choice, and TV Fame
She's baaaaaaack! OctoMom Nadya Suleman has found a way to make headlines again: The documentary on her and her brood of 14 has aired in the UK and will soon air in the US. Now she's having her reasoning for not selectively reducing the number of embryos she was carrying as part of her pregnancy with her nearly-year-old octuplets serve as the latest soundbite to make its media rounds, thanks to an appearance today on Good Morning America.
TV Junkie: Jon Rains on Kate's Parade; NBC to Comcast? UPDATED: Pam Beesly's Wedding Vlog
So the word was that Jon Gosselin was kicked off of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" making it "Kate Plus 8" which really would have been 1/2 a show. Now Jon has retaliated and has shut down the show's production via a cease and desist order. So now there'll be a battle between parental rights and TV network contract lawyers. Could be interesting but it seems unlikely anyone will come out smelling like roses in this mess.

Is GE finally going to get out of the TV business? Rumor has it that Comcast is in talks to acquire all or some of NBC Universal. Hopefully this will put an end to the Lenofication of TV and will restore more scripted shows (we can dream).
Clinton Kelly of 'What Not to Wear' Brings 'Make Over America' to SoCal
Clinton Kelly, co-host of TLC's "What Not To Wear", is coming to the Macy*s South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa on June 6th as part of his Make Over America Tour. The day will feature a fashion show of 15 "locals" (meaning pretty much anyone from LA or the Valley) selected for makeovers as well as Clinton Kelly holding court for the entire afternoon.
TV Junkie: LA Film Production Down/TV Up; 'Deadliest Catch' Season Premiere
The TV Junkie Plan: "Deadliest Catch", "Out of the Wild", "Modern Toss", Letterman, Fallon.
TV Junkie: A Date With Don Draper; TNT to Twitter NBA; Pre-Summer ABC Blow-Out
Jon Hamm aka Don Draper aka Dr. Drew Baird is available for a date ......for charity. Paul Rudd, Kevin Smith, Nathan Fillion, Patrick Duffy, David Schwimmer, Julianna Margulies and others are also available for dates so take your checkbook to the Adrienne Shelley Foundation website who is auctioning off these wonderful people on eBay.
TV Junkie: Baldwin on TCM; 'Breaking Bad' Returns! 'Ashes to Ashes' Debuts
Sunday @ 10pm features the return of AMC's incredible series, "Breaking Bad", with Bryan Cranston (pictured, right) as Walt White, the terminally-ill high school science teacher-turned meth cooker. We've been eagerly waiting for this show to resume and AMC has done a great job whetting our appetite with their sneak webisodes and other promos. Since the other stuff we like to watch on Sunday's @ 10pm are available on-demand, this is one of our prime picks of the weekend.
TV Junkie: The CW Pulls the Plug on Sundays
Dear CW fans, apparently none of you are watching the network on Sundays so management is yanking all of it's original content from that night ("In Harm's Way", "Valentine", "Easy Money", etc. - you know, the shows you've never heard of) and replacing them with repeats of "Jericho" and "The Drew Carey Show" which will somehow result in higher ratings(?) because as we all know, we don't get enough rerun content today, especially of shows that ended years ago.
TV Junkie: Weekend Edition
This weekend presents a dilemma. The big deal this weekend is the season premiere of "Mad Men" on Sunday at 10:00pm but this puts it in conflict with HBO's excellent "Generation Kill" which runs until 10:30pm but it repeats again at Midnight so that's probably the way out of this mess.
TV Junkie: Weekend Edition
The Screen Actors Guild has officially rejected the June 30th offer from the studios. Cited among the reasons for the rejection was the fact that the major studios and networks have invested large amounts of money and/or have inked deals to distribute their content online or via video-on-demand but the contract offered actors does not account for this increased distribution. Considering that the contract would be for four years, to be locked out of that revenue was considered unreasonable.
TV Junkie: Monday
AdWeek reports that the most recent comCast data shows that while the flow of people who go online to watch video has slowed down somewhat, the amount of video they watch online has exploded (like a Jerry Bruckheimer film).
TV Junkie: Weekend Edition
Other than college basketball, we don't have a lot to go on for this weekend. Can't wait for next weekend when Showtime unleashes The Tudors and Tracey Ullman's State of the Union.
TV Junkie: Monday
Everyone is in a tizzy about The Wire coming to a close yesterday - it's one of the few shows that decided to go out while it was on top so kudos to them. The TV Junkie is barely keeping his head above water with the deluge of new shows coming out in the next week, tonight it's Julianna Margulies' return to the little screen with Canterbury's Law (that's a mouthful, say: Julianna Margulies in Canterbury's Law 10x fast). Stay tuned for more shows this week, including the fabulous Lewis Black (right) in Lewis Black's Root of All Evil which premieres on Wednesday at 10:30pm - I hope he does "the finger thing" a lot.
TV Junkie: Thursday
Talk shows this week are all Natalie Portman all the time if you hadn't noticed - the charming pixie is making the rounds for her new flick The Other Boleyn Girl, a period piece that looks like a yawn to me. In terms of tonight's viewing options check out the 10 o'clock slot - way too many choices and all of them are reality TV, what a shame.
TV Junkie: Weekend Edition
OK so the Oscars a week from Sunday are what we're building up to but as an enthusiastic follower of Dexter on Showtime, I'm intrigued to see how it will translate to its network debut on CBS at 10:00pm this Sunday. At first I was concerned that the end result would be a heavily edited, several minutes shorter, vapid and empty shell of its former glory. Not so according to my Showtime contact. Evidently when they were shooting Dexter, for scenes that were gory, had nudity, or strong language, they shot alternate footage meant for broadcast TV. On Sunday we'll see if the result is a dumbed down and boring version of our favorite serial killer.
TV Junkie: Tuesday
It's been going on all day as it is: election coverage. Obviously you have your choice to get this news all night: CBS, ABC, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, and probably the best news source, Comedy Central. For all other decent viewing options see below.
TV Junkie: (Not So) Big Wednesday
I'm feeling it a little bit, yes, definitely am looking forward to the LOST premiere on Thursday night. Maybe make some chicken teriyaki and some tropical drinks, perhaps in a real coconut shell, yeah, that's the ticket.
TV Junkie: Tuesday
In some TV news with local flavor, Santa Monica-based Ovation, "The Arts Network" (I thought this was Lifetime's tagline?), has announced a series of partnerships with cultural institutions across the country to produce and promote their content and collections. Local organizations include: the LA Opera, Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, and P.S. ARTS. Now if I could only get Ovation on local cable....
TV Junkie: Weekend Edition
Torchwood is a guilty pleasure and its new season starts tonight on the BBCA. If you've ever been in a foreign land and seen a slightly dated American TV program come on and felt that queasy embarrassment then you know what watching Torchwood is like. It's cheesy and over-the-top science fiction with British accents and the odd dashing American thrown in. Everyone is hyper-sexed and they don't seem to discriminate between whichever sex they are attracted to at a particular moment and despite all the sexiness and the fact that it's a Euro import, I'm always a little dismayed at the lack of skin and even more dismayed at some of the gay-'80s hairdos. Still, it's well shot, good for a few laughs, and the way things are going with US licensing of UK shows, you'll be seeing it on one of the big four before you know it.
TV Junkie: Thursday
As you can see below it's slim pickins tonight. Last Friday the Wall Street Journal ran an article about all the smoke that the networks are blowing with their overuse of the word "new" as it applies to their programming. ABC's "all new (but partial) season of Lost" and the "all new funny" Carpoolers, which would be a welcome change for that sub par offering. I guess we're supposed to be excited about this and the fact that Victoria's Secret will be running it's first Super Bowl ad since 1999, mark your calendars.
TV Junkie: Wednesday (Writer/Creator David Milch Event Tomorrow!)
Hey, even though there might not be much newly written TV on tonight (that's worth watching) tomorrow you are cordially invited to see acclaimed TV show creator and writer David Milch (creator of Deadwood, NYPD Blue) host: "The Idea of the Writer: A Writing Discussion with David Milch" tomorrow from 2:15-4:00pm at the WGA Theater at 135 S. Doheny Drive in Beverly Hills. This event is FREE and all are welcome on a first come,...
TV Junkie: Tuesday
I watched Saving Grace last night because there was nothing else on and I was sorry I did it. Holly Hunter I love you but there should be a better show than this for you - it's morphed into Touched By An Angel with touches of profanity. It looks like there's a lot of stuff tonight (below) but it's actually pretty sparse. I'll have some DVD reviews up soon since that's what I'm really watching,...
TV Junkie: Big Wednesday
5:00pm CNN/You Tube Republican Debate CNN - Get ready to look at a bunch of middle-aged white guys, the one and only true face of the United States of America. 8:45pm The Wrong Box TCM - (1966) Two borthers try to outlive each other to get the contents of a cash hoard in Victorian London. Starring, among others: (Hello, my name is) Michael Caine, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Peter Sellers. TV Junkie Pick O' The...
TV Junkie: Tuesday
Tuesdays are a slow day for the networks. Dancing With the Stars will soon require someone to pass out every week in order for the show to remain interesting and House seems like it jumped the shark a while ago. For satisfaction we'll have to delve deep into cableland or pay-TV. 8:00pm TCM Crime Drama Marathon TCM - Starting out with The Lineup and following on with Armored Car Robbery, and Follow Me Quietly 8:00pm...
TV Junkie: Big Wednesday
Tuesdays will be the worse for the lack of Damages until when, next Summer?!?! There seems to be just a couple worthy prime time choices tonight despite a full plate of new offerings that have, to me, seemed mediocre. Please tell me in the comments if you watch any of the following and why (I've got an open mind, I'll check them out again): Gossip Girl, Life, Dirty Sexy Money, Criminal Minds, Private Practice. 5:00pm...
