Thousands of diehard "Twilight" fans from all over the world gathered for several days last week as they awaited an early screening of the first of two films covering the last of four books: "Breaking Dawn - Part 1." If you passed by Chick Hearn Court between Wednesday and Sunday, in the space between the L.A. Live Plaza and the Staples Center, you would have seen two large "tent cities" filled with moviegoers who spent as long as four days outdoors awaiting the film.

ABC and ESPN Say Don't Feel Stuck with Time Warner Cable, You Have Choices When it Comes to Providers
The contract between Disney-owned TV networks ABC and ESPN and cable provider Time Warner Cable is set to expire in some markets, including Los Angeles, on September 2nd. What that means is that negotiations are underway, but with the public pulled in.
Time Warner Cable Out of HD Cable Boxes Until June?
In the past, Time Warner Cable has seen its fair share of problems for widespread internet outages throughout L.A. Now, the latest of their follies is a bit more odd. A Consumerist reader decided to buy Time Warner's Cable HD services, but he ran into a little problem: you can't get an HD cable box until June. "I calmly informed him that I would be taking my business elsewhere," he said.
TV Junkie: New Year's Eve Specials, FOX vs. Time Warner
Will FOX pull the plug for Time Warner customers come midnight tonight? It looks like it so far! In other news, here are some New Year's Eve specials for your viewing pleasure tonight, listed by LAist's TV Editor Tom Lewis in his column on Monday:
Looks Like FOX Will be Pulled for Time Warner Customers
Beginning Friday, Time Warner Cable customers may not have access to their favorite shows like the Simpsons, Glee, Fringe and even the Sugar Bowl on its various channels. The two companies have yet to reach an agreement on the per subscriber reimbursement fee. "FOX wants up to 50% more per subscriber compared to the other major networks fees and Time Warner isn't happy about that," explained LAist's TV Junkie Tom Lewis in Monday's column. "Unless you want your fee to get a non-significant hike, you shouldn't be happy about it either."
Saved! LACMA's Film Series will Continue with New Funding
To the shock of the film community last month, LACMA announced that come October, the beloved weekend film series would discontinue due to budget constraints. That prompted some advocacy and strong words from many, including director Martin Scorsese. "It comes as no surprise to me that the public is rallying," he wrote in an open letter printed in the LA Times. "People from all over the world are speaking out, because they see this action - correctly, I think - as a serious rebuke to film within the context of the art world."
TV Junkie: Wednesday
On Monday the NY Times reported that ABC and Cox Communications are collaborating on a video-on-demand service with disabled fast-forward, meaning, yeah, that you can't skip the commercials. This isn't that new an idea as Time Warner Cable has been doing the equivalent with two features called "Start Over" and "Look Back" (after using them IMHO they stink).

Time Warner Cable LA is Still Pandering the Worst HD-DVR Ever Made
Ok maybe it's not the worst DVR ever made Oh yes it's the worst. And it's not just me, customers hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it. I'm writing this post to let Time Warner LA know that this cannot stand for long before customers such as myself switch back to satellite providers. I'm talking very soon, like as soon as I can get a day off from work to have...
City of Moorpark Sues Time Warner Cable
Does this sound like something the City of Los Angeles should do? The city of Moorpark has slapped a $25,000 fine against Time Warner Cable over what it says is poor service provided to customers. The City Council voted 4-0 to fine the company over technical problems, long waiting times and telephone prompts that didn’t lead to the right answer. “Time Warner has, for a period of time, not lived up to the obligations that...
Lakers are 7-4 in High Definition ...but not for long sportsfans!
Lamar: "It's about time that KCAL started broadcasting us in HD." Kobe: "Yeah? It's about time your fuckin knee healed. How 'bout that?" The Lakers are #2 in the Pacific Division with a .643 record and have a .636 record in games broadcast in High Definition. Pretty good, since the games are only broadcast in high def when they play top teams... until now. Starting February 2nd, all Laker away games on KCAL 9...
Odds & Ends
After a week of moving into a new house, travelling to the midwest and back and being without internet or TV, this LAist contributor is a little overwhelmed with everything he's missed and has to catch up on. We say goodbye to Phil and hello to Alex and just as soon as we can get our -ist shit together, we'll have a new contributor writing focusing on local politics as well. Now, here's what caught our eye today:
Adelphia Gets Freaky
Apparently Adelphia cable wants us to love ourselves. Intimately. Starting Friday, Adelphia of Southern California (and most of its cable providers around the nation) will make triple X pay-per-view channel Spice Platinum available to its subscribers. This makes them the first major cable operator in the US to offer hardcore action.
